My 1988 with the 4+3 transmission won't shift in to High gear. The indicator on the dash says the O/D is on but it isn't. The fluid is full.

I have had variuos problems with mine. Usualy changing the overdrive filter helps. The 4+3 uses several different sensors to make the shift work and if one of those are out it could cause the problem. I have heard the best thing to do with the 4+3 is to bypass it so you can control when it shifts not the sensors.

My trans will let the engine rev up slightly when shifting from 3rd to 4th gear. got 108 thousand miles on the truck. A 2000 GMC sierra. Do you think there could be a simple fix? Mike Dill

I have heard the same thing about bypassing the computer control of the 4+3 transmission. I would like to do that, do you have any information as to how I would go about this process?

i need part#14081168 shaft,1st &2nd shift i can not get first an second gear do you know of any one who may have that part?

Mike, Ryan and Pedro. There is a book called 101 projects for your Corvette (1984-1996). It has the details for putting in a jumper to tell the computer that you are Always in 2nd gear or higher. That is the trick I think Darrin was talking about. The book costs ~$20 and it is way cheaper than taking your corvette to a shop for anything. Plus it has 100 other useful recommendations for these cars. Also there is a lot of useful information at Corvette Forum.com Mine is an '85. ENJOY

ENGAGES WHEN TEMPERATUR HIT ABOUT 180F
NEAR THE POWER BRAKE UNIT THEIRS A RELAY ON THE FIRE WALL THAT CONTROL THE OVERDRIVE THEN ONCE IT ENGERIZE THEIR A PREASURE SWITCH INSIDE THE OD UNIT IT WILL ENGAGE OD WHEN THE PREASURE BUILD UP

FIND THE WIRES THAT IN YOUR CONSUL THE OD SWITCH CUT WIRES OFF FEAD ON SIDE OF THE SWITCH WITH 12 VOLTS THE OTHER SIDE TO A RELAY COIL FEED THE NO CONTACT WITH 12 VOLTS THEN FIND THE PREASURE SWITCH ON THE SIDE OF THE 4
3 CUT THE 1 WIRE WIRE FROM THE HARNESS FEED THE SWITCH WITH THE WIRE FROM THE RELAY NO CONTACT WHEN YOU CLOSE THE SWICH THE RELAY ENGERIZES CLOSING THE NO CONTACTS AND FEED THE PERASURE SWITH AND ENGASE THE OD UNIT THIS BYPASSES THE ECM AND ALL CENSORS OD WILL ENGAE AS SOON AS U DRIVE OFF YOUR JUST CLOSING IT LIKE TURNING ON A LIGHT (ALL STAR ELECTRIC)ELECTRICLLC@AOL.COM ANY QUESTIONS

I am thinking of buying a 87 with the 4+3 tranny. Does any one know if the 6 speed that came out in 1989 can be put in as a replacement. If so how much would it cost?

Hey man, I recently bought an 86 vette with the 4+3. I am trying to learn the tranny in it. I shift 1st to 2nd then it is in OD 2nd,3rd and 4th. Hells bells man, That 86 has 100,300 miles and gets 26mpg.

Hey guys. Thanks for posting your ideas on this site. I have a 1984 Corvette with 4 + 3 Transmission and my reverse is not grabbing but my forward gears are working perfectly. My overdrive is not working either. Any ideas?
