my family has two cobalts right now, a coupe(mine) and a sedan(my sister's). we have both had trouble with the ignitions. both have had the ignition replaced because the keys were stuck. my problem was that the key could turn but wouldn't turn far enough to get it out. my sister's car had a problem with some security feature that malfunctioned where the wheels had been cut too far when the car was turned off. this resulted in the key being locked in position in the ignition. if you let it sit for a little bit and then move the wheel while turning the key that may help otherwise it needs to be towed.

I haven't had trouble with the ignition but with something called the trnasmission control module. I was in a minor crash with a ditch and had some body damage and radiator damage. However during the tow to the shop was when things went wrong. After the shop fixed that then the module went up. HELP!!!

Has anyone had issues with pulsing brakes (feels similiar to a rotor out of round)? Car has approximately 1100 miles on it. Dealer could find nothing but when they called GM about it they were told to replace the front rotors even though they showed less than .001 variance. I assume this is a known issue due to their response but there are no SB's or recalls.

I have a standard cobalt and I too had problems with my key getting stuck. what the dealer said is that Chevy know about the problem and that it is the link in the gear shaft. It had to be reproduced for them to replace it. It happens mostly when th car is sitting on a slant. I too had an accident and had brand new parts replaced on my vehicle. There are some things I need additional repair on but I just want to know is anyone a/c loud or do you hear the compressor? Also I have a special feature on the back of my car. Do anyone have the word "COBALT" on the back trunk tail light? I am the only cobalt owner in my town that have this feature.

I too have had the key problem, it started about 15000 miles.....until then everything was okay. If I drive the car anywhere and attempt to shut it off and remove the key it turns to the accessory position and will not move any further,,,,,,,,you cant take it out no matter what you do, ie., turn steering wheel, apply brakes, etc however I did discover if you restart the car and move the automatic shift lever to neutral and then back into park you can then remove the key normally. AUUUGH!!!! Who wants to start up the car an additonal time just to remove the key.....GM says they have a service bulletin on it and will fix it..........hummmmmmm other than that I have not had any problem with the Cobalt LT.

BE CAREFUL PEOPLE! My car started doing that on October 23rd. Was supposed to take it in on the 25th, but on the 24th my car had a better idea. My mom was driving it parked my car in a parking spot, and put my car in park...but no my car wasnt happy to be in park. Without touching the brake or gas peddle my car reved went over a cement parking block and ran itself into a wall. Yeah so i havent driven it in 2 weeks, and my dealership wont even touch it until a "specialist" from GM comes to look at it. Im so very mad at GM right now. btw my car is a 2006 Cobalt SS. Its 8 months old and has 9200 kilometers on it.

I've had my 2006 Cobalt SS now for 19,000 KM's. Here is a list of problems. PS. It's been in the shop 12-16 times, I've lost track.

Front End Loose, ABS keep turning on when going over bumps. Was a broken weld on the steering column. Replaced steering column 3 times

Passenger Inner door handle came apart : replaced

Driver Outter door handle vibrates, replace, was painted, terrible paint job.

Cruise control button broken (waiting to be fixed)

Center consol coming apart on passenger side (waiting to be fixed)

Can't get key out of ignition (waiting to be fixed)

Metal grinding on metal sound in the morning when driving out of my parking lot. Sounds like I'm driving over metalman from Megaman 3, but my friend looked and nothing is hitting the bottom of the car.

The car also pulls to both sides pretty bad, and the gas mileage bites the big one. I got better gas mileage with my 86 1/2 Supra.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents. I'm totally pissed off and going to see what it takes to get out of a lease on Tuesday, go buy myself an import. BTW. My Grand Prix GT died the day I traded it in, it was 4 years old. Should've known better than to buy a GM.

*sigh*

my key was stuck, they replaced my shifter and solenoid (sp?), and told me to apply my parking break when parking to make sure it didnt take off on me again. My options to get out of my lease were : 1.get someone to take over payments. 2.pay off the rest of payments ($14,500), or 3. trade it in and pay the difference if they cant sell it for less than the buyout. So good luck...Im gonna try trading it in at a different dealership.

Another Problem! Anyone wanna guess it? Ya that's right, got out to my car this morning and the battery was completely dead. Nothing was left on, they boosted it and it barely started. Drove it to the dealership, instead of 170 HP, felt like 30 HP. They have no idea where to start. I had a list of 10 things now for them to fix. So I thought, hm, maybe I'll trade it in and get an HHR, turns out it has just as many problems. Gotta love GM! BTW, I promise this time, this is the LAST GM I'm buying.....promise...oh, and also, I told my dealership about all the hundreds of forums with Cobalt problems, they told me such doesn't exist and it's just people making things up. Funny that all the problems I've had are common? I wanted to show them, but he turned his computer monitor off LOL Great Service! Oh, and GM Canada offered me 1 free oil change to compensate for all the problems. Right........I wasn't stupid yesterday, wonder why she thought I was today...who knows.
