I have a 2005 Chevy Cobalt SS/SC and sometime when I shift into second hard the car will just die on me, but it starts right back up like there is nothing wrong. Can anyone tell me why my car is doing that, or have any clue as to what would cause that? I need help. I'm supposed to take my car to the track, but I want to fix that problem before I go cuz that could be kinda embarassing going down the middle of the track and having my car just quit on me, please help me if you know anything about that!:)

Do you mean it dies when you are in the act of shifting or when you hit the gas after you shift?

Sorry, I meant when I am in the act of hitting the gas after shifting, it's just so fast that it is kinda hard to tell, so I didn't think about mentioning it when I said that, also when I first start the car up sometimes when I shift into second and sometimes third it'll kinda bunny hop like I dumped the clutch or something or like it is really cold and I didn't rev the engine high enough before shifting. I think these two things might be related, or maybe not, I don't know

Nevermind, I figured it out, its cuz my car has so much more horsepower and torque that when the engine red lines in first and then you go into second it has kind of like a kill switch that kills the car cuz the engine is torqing too much for the way the computer is programmed. But that's gonna be fixed pretty soon when I get my Stage 2 Upgrade Kit for it with engine calibration.

I am so glad I have read your information. My son has a 2005 Chevy Colbolt SS/SC, and he is having the same exact problem with his car. He just left the dealership, and the technician told him to log onto the web and locate the software program to upgrade his engine. He currently has a Stage 2 kit on his engine, but evidently, it is calibrated correctly. The technician told him that he would install it for him. Please replay with information. Thanks so much!

Stasia,
Did the Stage 2 kit with the engine calibration correct the problem....? Where did you purchase this?

Desperately need information!
Thanks,
Alesia Scott

Well I purchased mine at my Chevy dealership because what I got is a GM product only. If you have the dealership install the kit for you they will also do the engine calibration as well (or computer programming) whichever you call it

If you installed it yourself you should still be able to go over to the dealership and have them do the engine calibration for you.
