Jeffcats wrote: I have a 2003 Cavalier with 63,500 miles on it and the EXACT same thing happened! They say it's my fuel pump and it is going to cost me $660 to replace. Merry Christmas huh? I am wondering if this is a Chevy problem now. <quoted text>

I just got towed tonight with a fuel pump problem. My 2003 has 53,700 miles. I drove the car from work to home, went back out, 3 miles away from home it stopped in the road. I live in Austria, so I don’t know how much this is going to cost. My question is: is this the onset of future problems, should I also be thinking about selling the car?

I have a 2003 cavalier with 86,000 miles on it and my fuel pump went out half way to the airport(1.5 hr from ATL, 1.5 hr from home). After my trip, it cost me $275 to get towed home. Pump is $265 with me changing it.****WARNING**** Timing chains need to be changed before 100K miles. Mine went out(84,000) the day I was leaving at Thanksgiving for a 900 mile trip. I fixed it and it improved my MPG HWY from 28 to 33!

I just got the news my 2003 needs a new fuel pump and couldn't believe it. From what I read here, it's not an unusual problem.$500 for the pump plus 4-5 hours of labor! Has anyone heard of a recall? Or anyone tried to get GM to cover the cost with any luck?

I have 142,000 miles on my 2000 cavalier and surprisingly enough, not, it needs a new fuel pump. $622 bucks. I'm going to try and trade it in and get a 96 VW GTI VR6 a better built car.

My cavalier has 85,000 miles on it and similar to the rest, i was driving down the road and my car went dead. Thinking i ran out of gas i got some and filled it to find out that didnt help. Its getting towed now and its the fuel pump. Im just waiting to see how much this is gonna cost me.

My 2003 had a problem with the fuel gauge, I showed 1/8 of a tank left before it stopped. I found out the additives in some fuel blends contributes to the early demise of the pumps and level sensor. The fuel in the tank also cools the pump so continually running the tank close to empty doesent help. Carter makes a very nice replacment pump and sensor unit for around $200 that stands up to the fuel changes better than the GM unit.

I have a 2003 Chevy Cavalier as well. Fuel Pump went out yesterday, had to have the car towed and I'm waiting to see how much I'm going to be in debt. But my question is, is this car worth it? I've had other minor problems I was able to fix myself such as replacing the driver window motor. Then my defroster went out and I had wires bent which prevented me from turning the control knob. Luckily those were simple enough but fustrating. I've also had many fuses burn out, which should not happen so fast. Any information would be great. Should I sell the car? Am I going to put more into it than I'll get out?

I also have a 2003 cavalier and had the same problem. My fuel pump went out at 37000 miles. Just great right after the factory warranty expired.
