My fuel pump went yesterday. I bought a new one for 266$ and we are trying to figure out how to drop the tank! We undid the straps, and all connectors and wires. The tank is just stuck up there! Does anyone have any suggestions or tips for changing the fuel pump on a 03 cavalier?! Thanks!

Just in case you do not have an answer yet!! Just done this a month ago. You have to drill some of the rivots out in the heat shield by the fuel tank, this will allow some give for your fuel tank to drop. Obviously replace rivots after you put your tank back in. Had mine in and out in about 4 hours, and car running!! GOOD LUCK!

hey i took my moms out yesterday. ok only have to take out one rivot thats connected to the driversside tank strap(i cut aorund it and cut it off) with both straps out the tank will sitin perfectly, so u need to use some muscle and loosen the the doublesided tape on the top of the tank. i didnt even see it before i took the the tankout. the thing im going to tell u is that once you get past the welts where they have melted the tank together then ur fine it should come out with u pulling it. the welts get hung up on the the suspesion beam that runs from one side to the other.

It's too late for you guys, but for anyone else reading this thread, check for the recall involving the fuel pump before you lay out any of your own money and time.
