305 to 350

Does anyone know if a 350 from a 76 Malibu with a 350 turbo trans will mount up to an 85 caprice?

Yes they will,if the car had a TH350 tranny in it. if it had a TH700R4 4 speed it still will fit but the tranny mount will have to be moved forward a little bit. I switched my TH350 out for a TH700R4 in my 1974 caprice coupe, & had to move the tranny mount back as the mounting blocks are in different locations. By the year of your car you probably have a Th200R4 which still should be able to do fairly easily. The engine will fit as well with mods,as a 76 malibu had different emissions equipment on it than the 85. Possibly keep the intake from the 305 & put it on the 350. The 283,302,305,327,350 & 400 small blocks are all the same in all the common areas,the only exception that most have different cylinder bores & strokes. The 302,327 & the 350 have the same bore with different crank strokes. Maybe think about putting a 400 3.875 stroke crank in your 350 to make it a 383,would give it more power if you put a whole new kit in it. Possible to 350 horse & 400-450 ft. lbs. of torque. The 350 if its factory probably has 150-200 horsepower & maybe 300 ft. lbs of torque.

I just receintly swapped my 305 out of my 87 for a 78 1/4 ton 350 with little trouble however getting it toneed properly since i used a rebuilt holly 650cfm carb and edlbrock intake (with edlbrock rpm cam) it is possible to tune a carb with exhust to pass emmisionsjust lots of fine tuning!

you can not put a 305 intake(77 and newer) on a 350 (76 and older) 305's have what they call "polution heads" intake corners are rounded off on 305 and won't match up to 350 head ports

i have a 85 impala with a 305 my 700th wont shift in to in to thrid but it shifts fine frist through snd. does it need a new tranny or do u think i need a trq converter? if the tranny is bad would a th-350 tranny work?
