I'm looking for info on the column shift system. Is the shift pattern pretty standard? I'm only familiar with floor shift manuals. How hard is the column shift to get used to? What is the standard shift pattern, if there is any?

I have a 1970 C-10 CST Camper Special that is all original. It has leaf springs in the rear and I have not been able to find any information relating to leaf springs for a 1970 C-10. Anybody know anything about the leaf springs, were they an option, are they unique to the Camper Special?

I have 1968 C10 pickup , i'm after the measurement of a short fleetside fender (through the middle marker to the front end of fleetside) as mine has been cut . If some one coul'd let me know that woul'd be great..

Tim, As you are aware, the Chevy's came with trailing arms with the coil springs. The GMC's came with leaf springs. However, if you were a "Chevy" guy and wanted leafs out back you could order it that way from the factory and vice versa. Go to Early Classic Enterprises on the internet, then go to "Tech Articles" from the Classic Truck Magazine. They splain it in mo detail. Idaho Chris

The "3 on the tree" is not terribly hard to get used to, as long as the shifter is in good shape. Many novices tend to pull in on the stick when shifting to 2nd from 1st, which causes the transmission to give a nice little grinding noise. The shifter should be allowed to pull itself to the 2-3 level. Also, if the joint between the shift rods in front of the firewall is sloppy, these setups are notorious for jamming the tranny between reverse and 2nd. Overall, though, the 3-speed is fun to drive, but I blew mine up on my 485-hp 355, so beware!! |

Not sure about the leafs. I have the same year and style truck as you but i have springs and then coil over shocks. question for you, do you have fuel tank behind the seat or under the box by frame rail? heard they had put back up tanks on the side |

you have to bust the back channel loose.. there should be two bolts holding it to the door.. just break them loose and you will have enough play to get the window and the vent windows in there.. i caught hell trying to figure that one out myself..!!!

It must be an option because I also have a 1970 gmc c-10 with leaf springs, with no indications of being a camper special. |

I have a 1970 GMC Custom/10. It is an 8 hole wheel 3/4 ton pickup and presently has a utility box on it. My question is" is it worth the time and money to restore it or would you guys just use her until she falls apart"?
