Just had remanufactured engine put in recently and having problems. Engine seems to have a steady miss at idle and hesitates when driving at any speed. Feels like a vacuum leak but cannot locate one. Have new plugs, wires, dist. cap, and some new sensors. Engine light not coming on so no codes. Almost no power after take off. Drinking gas like crazy!! Any suggestions on what may be the problem? Has been running ok until past few days.

Have you checked the EGR valve? My VIN W was exhibiting similar problems but didn't always set the SES. FYI, GM released an updated MEMCAL (ROM) that addresses that condition, it's code is "BWAK". You can buy one from a dealer for $70+ or you can get one from www.rockauto.com for about $45. The GM part number can be gotten from a dealer; enter that number in the Search window on RockAuto's site. FYI, my former MEMCAL code was "BNHD".

FYI, the GM part number for the BWAK MEMCAL is 16239464. It's applicable to (at least) 1995 VIN W platforms with the "PCM" engine control unit (the "PCM" controller's located above the passenger's footwell; note that the "VCM" engine control unit, a different unit which was also used for some 1995 VIN W engines, is located on the coolant recovery tank underhood; this MEMCAL does not apply to the "VCM" VIN W controllers, only the "PCM"). GM Service Bulletin 67-65-38A describes the sticking EGR valve problem and lists this MEMCAL as software upgrade which remedies the problem.

I just purchased a 1985 mercruiser 4.3 V-6 with a Carb. just to find out that it had not been winterized 1 freeze plug came out and it cracked the exhaust manifold. I replaced the plug and repaired the manifold. now when I get the engine up to operating temp. and the thermostat opens up , I am getting water in the oil. any way to fix this ?

Most likely you've got a cracked block/cylinder/oil passage from the freezing - unfortunately, only true way out is a new short block or complete motor....sorry!

Oh yeah - heads may be damaged also (or they may be the cause as well)- a complete long block may be required instead of just short block - sorry again! This is from MANY years experience with old jet boats restoration/repair, many were not well taken care of for winter - Best of luck to you!

How hard is it to pull this engine. anything else i should look for that could be damaged frim the freeze other than the block, from the engine back.

i have found a 95 s 10 blazer with a 4.3 engine but the seller said he thinks the head gasket is needing replaced because it has alittle white smoke out the exhaust he says it use's no oil. the exterior and interior ,paint all looks great has about 160,000 miles on it has about 60% rubber on it he is asking 1250.00 for it does this sound reasonable on the price or is this going to cost more to fix than it would be worth.this is a 4x4 also. thanks for your advice

I *COMPLEELY* agree with the injector spider kit being the culpret.

You can change this yourself for about $309.00 - and about 2 hours of your time.

I've had to replace mine 2x - once because the fuel pressure regulator was leaking & it was flooding the engine on the passenger side...

Second time, one of the injector poppets was stuck open & flooding a cylinder.

I'd bet dollars to donuts - that replacing that will fix your described problem.

Have you replaced this engine yet? There are some other things you can try, but you have to find the leak. send me a e-mail at [email protected] and I will try to help you. Dennis

There is a small vacuum line behind your intake, near the distributer. See if it is cracked. Mine was.
