Just had a long chat with a Chevy rep. They want me to take the car to a Chevy dealer, pay $85 for a diagnostic fee, then if the dealer's diagnostic team says it was Chevy's fault, they will then waive the fee and discuss the percentage they will pay for their faulty product. I explained that I was looking at this site and there were 39 other people with this problem just on this site alone. Chevy was not interested in looking at this site.:( I tried to help you all! A lawsuit might just be what is needed to get them to honor their customers' needs.

I've got a 2007 hatchback; bought used about 3 years ago. I had the driver's door lock fall into the door over a year ago, when the car was barely still under warranty. They fixed it, but only after saying they needed to make sure that it was not due to attempted forced entry (who'd want to steal this car?).
Well it has happened a second time to the same door this past weekend. I could tell it was getting loose and should have taken it to them at that point so they could see how well their product holds up.
I'm going to make a probably wasted attempt to see if I can get it fixed again. Otherwise I'll be joining everyone that has done it themselves. Car is valued less than I owe now. Sarcastic remark: Great product and customer service GM!

I have a Aveo 2006 numerous time my lock has fallen inside the door. First time it was still under warranty but after that I had to figure out how to fix it. It wasn't hard but why should I have to keep fixing it if it's a design problem?

I know that there are a few good (href=" http://www.advanceglassinc.com/Door-Services/ )exterior door repair shops in Chicago IL). My Uncle used to drive a limo out there, and he had a similar problem, and the shop he went to was able to get it fixed pretty quickly.

My 2009 Aveo driver's side lock just fell into the door. I put the key in and unlocked the door. As I pulled the key out I heard a jingle - thought it was my keys. When I got home I noticed the lock had fallen inside the door. I'm going to report it to Chevy. Hopefully they will have gotten enough complaints to fix it.

I have a 2005 Aveo and the lock fell into the door a few years ago. I guess I should fix it before the other one fails. Other that the lock issue, stalling issue, failure to continue to run if I don't let the car warm up enough issue, front end vibration issue, slow shift into next higher gear after going up steep hill issue. Oh and the plastic housing for the thermostat will melt in half at the seam unexpectedly, so be prepared to be stranded if you don't have a spare. Mine failed when I pulled into my drive way...Thank God for that! Fan belt broke on the way to work, but I made it to the Sears repair shop. Engine light has been on for almost 7 years due to upper oxygen sensor failed...I need to replace that part. Other than that, the car has been fairly dependable for the last 250k miles. I was a little late on replacing the timing belt....apparently you should replace it every 60k miles for about 200 in parts and labor....I went 180K before I replaced it. All in all, it sounds like I got one of the better Aveos out there. I hope God keeps it together for me until I can afford another vehicle...probably will be a Toyota next time. At least those are made in America.

I wasn't TELLING you to do anything. I was only supplying some information. If you want to pay the dealer to fix it, by all means, go ahead.
Hey Mcthumber I appreciate the link. I might actually fix mine now.:)

I want to thank everyone for their input. I managed to fix my car using a spare bolt I found on the ground. Taking apart the door was the hard part, and I had to use a pair of cuticle scissors that I bent the tip on to pull that stupid clip out of the window crank. I got it though and now I don't have to crawl through my car to unlock it.

My dad bought his new in 07. Door lock fell in to. He had it fixed and it did it again. He gave me the car so I could save gas on my way to work 80 miles. Car is great 184,000 miles and have done nothing to it. Chevwoo needs to fix for free.

This just happened to me, on my '05 Aveo. I'd rather not take the door panel off myself and fix it but, it looks like there's no other way if I want to save money...

our delivery car is an "07 Aveo. Right front door lock actuator is frozen locked, so the door will not close.

Same thing on my daughter's 2008 Aveo. Both locks fell inside the doors. Driver side window made a nasty clunk noise. Thought for sure the window was going to crack, but it didn't.

Add me to the list of Aveo owners whose lock has fallen inside the (driver side) door. Since 2009 this and a broken inside door handle are the only problems I've had.

This happened to me, too! I unlocked the door and pulled the handle. I heard an unusual clunk, but didn't think much of it. When I got to the store, I found the lock was gone when I tried to lock it. This really sucks since I have to crawl in on the passengers side. I'll see how difficult it is to fix on my own, but I bought MaxCare when I bought the car. I'll probably pay the $50 to have it fixed along with the lock-shift problem and the leaking gasket.
