And This is AVEO gets THE WORST GAS MILEAGE I have EVER SEEN! I AM GETTING 17-18MPG'S -THIS IS BAD- I DRIVE LIKE I Am 80 as well & BURN ONLY 93 OCTANE! I don't know what to do. I know I am going to be getting the run around from Chevy & the dealerships. CAN ANYONE PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ANSWERS OR INSIGHT ANYTHING!!! PLEASE!!!
Andrew, I'm not trying to be rude but you sound like you just spent $20.000 or $30.000 on a car and were dissapointed, HELP! PLEASE HELP!!!:)
I posted here awhile back that our check engine light would come on once in awhile (intermittently)....
HELP!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!, sorry Andrew I couldn't resist :).
Anyhow this was happening on our new '06 Aveo. The dealer said GM was aware of a problem on some Aveos and that they were working on a remap of the black box to fix it.
I got a call from the dealer a week ago telling us they had the fix for us and to bring the car in.
GM has a new (recalibrated) oxygen sensor that according to him will not only fix the engine check light but also improve our mileage. I have an appointment next week for the install.
So, I guess we'll see what happens.

do you know if this o2 sensor is a fix for all the 06 aveos, or just a few out of the bunch. I've yet to have a check engine light but i do have horrible gas mileage.

I have to say I belong to the 'What is Wrong With My Aveo's Fuel Economy 'Camp. I bought my 2004 Aveo in July of '04. That winter when it dropped to just -8 Celsius, my throttle froze open. I took the car back THREE TIMES.....each time they said the car was fine. But, since that frozen throttle incident, my car has had a loss of power. Which still hasn't been rectified. My fuel economy went totally in the toilet at the same time. The unbelievable part was a year later, getting a recall from GM....to install a throttle de-icing kit!!! I have driven GM's since I was 16 and my late uncle was a respected salesperson for GM....but I swear this is the last GM I ever own. I'm very disappointed.

I bought a 2006 Aveo from dealer stock in August of this past year. I drive about 30 highway miles per day, and I'm averaging about 34 mpg. It's the value package, so stick, no air, etc. I'm sure that makes some difference. No problems so far with about 5300 miles on it.

I noticed that in Consumer Reports magazine that the reliability/build quality of the '04 Aveo versus the '05 was much worse. Chevy obviously made some changes to the FI and chassis starting in'05.

I'm still waiting to run out my first tank of gas on our '06 to see if the new recalibrated O2 sensor has changed mileage any, although we were averaging around 32 mpg before the new O2 sensor. If this new sensor puts us in the mid 30s I'll be happy.

The other day I had my first look at a Yaris hatchback, all I can say is that between the butt ugly looks and the cheap looking seats/interior I'm feeling better about choosing the Aveo.:)

I tried to talk to GM but they are very good at making you never want to call them again. The person I talked to was rude and belittling. I ended the call in tears - realizing that I am stuck with a poor car.

I haven't owned a lot of cars - they tend to last me a long time. The best car I have owned was a 1983 Chev Celebrity (7 years). Then a 1990 Topaz (7 years as well). Until I got the Aveo. I should have stuck with the old beaters.

Regina, if the car is under warranty and your brakes squeak bring it in and let them drive it with you along. If they are squeaking they will look into it.
Probably needs new pads or Brake Quiet on the back of the existing pads.

When our check engine light was acting up we didn't freak out, I just figured it's under warranty I'll bring it in to see what's going on. since installing the new sensor the lights been working fine.
No need to be so melodramatic if it's under warranty.

If you don't get results from your dealer under the warranty there is #1 nothing wrong with the car or #2 you're a pushover. DON'T CALL THEM ON THE PHONE, BRING THE CAR TO THEM!! Hell, on a new Accord I once owned that had a bad vibration in the front end, I stuck signs in the car windows complaining of my plight with their service dept. and paraded around town with it. I didn't call them, they called me to resolve the matter.

I drove from the Atlantic coast of NC to central TX and spent just under $70 on gas. It's the best 12 grand I ever spent. 2006 automatic 5-door.

I BOUGHT A 2006 AVEO LT ABOUT 5 MONTHS AGO. ON THE 3RD DAY I HAD TO TAKE IT BACK BECAUSE I HEARD A CLICKING NOISE. THEY SAID THAT THE STRUT WAS LOOSE AND FIXED IT. SINCE THEN I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK 4 TIMES BECAUSE OF THIS KNOCKING NOISE WHEN I HIT THE BRAKES. THE MECHANIC RODE WITH ME AND DIDN'T HEAR IT BUT WHEN I TOLD HIM IT SEEMED LIKE THE SUSPENSION WHEN THE CAR GOES FORWARD HE HAD A LIGHTER MECH. RIDE WITH ME. HE HEARD THE NOISE AND SAID SUSPENSION. EACH TIME I BROUGHT IT IN THEY SAID THEY COULDNT FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND THAT SMALL CARS MAKE THAT NOISE. I AM 34 AND DROVE MANY CARS AND NONE HAVE DONE THAT. SO NOW I AM DOWN TO MY LAST VISIT AND THEY FIND THAT THE ROTORS ARE WARPED. I ASKED THEM WHAT WOULD CAUSE THEM TO WARP IN A MONTHS TIME SINCE MY LAST VISIT THEY WERE FINE. NO ANSWER. THE STEARING WHEEL VIBRATES AT 30MPH AND PEOPLE SAY THEY HEAR THE KNOCKING WHEN I DRIVE BY. THIS CANNOT BE NORMAL. ALSO, WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR THE AIRCOND. SMELLS LIKE MILDEW THE ENTIRE TIME IT IS ON. THEY SAID THAT I SHOULD CRACK THE WINDOWS EVERYTIME I GO TO USE THE AIR. APPARENTLY THAT TOO IS SOMETHING THAT I HAVE TO "DEAL" WITH BECAUSE ACCORDING TO THEM ALL NEW CARS ARE LIKE THAT. MY SON IS ON 2 INHALERS FOR ASTHMA AND SNEEZES WHEN HE GETS IN THE CAR SO I AM KINDA CONCERNED. DON'T GET ME WRONG, I LOVE THE CAR AND DON'T WANT TO GET RID OF IT BUT I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE ELSE HAS HAD THESE PROBLEMS. I READ A FORUM FROM SOMEONE IN GERMANY THAT SAID HE HAD THOSE PROBLEMS AND IT WAS DUE TO THE SUSPENSION BEING WRONG FOR THE CAR BECAUSE THE BACK END IS UP HIGHER THAN THE REST. I AM SORRY THIS IS SOO LONG BUT I AM A CONCERNED MOTHER OF 2 AND WOULD LIKE HELP. IF ANYONE HAS THESE PROBLEMS PLEASE EMAIL ME AT [email protected] MAYBE I WILL BE LUCKY AND FIND OUT MORE INFO TO GIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HELP WITH THE PROB. LIKE I SAID, I LOVE THE CAR BUT....
I have a 2005 Aveo and its got 35,000 mile on it now. I hear a noise when going over bumps at low speeds, It sorta sounds like a mix between squeaking and metal parts binding up against each other, I know its definately the suspension, I know a little about cars and i get the impression that it sounds like the shocks and struts are not tightened properly and are just sitting losely in there mounts + it sounds like the bushings are gone. It made these sounds from day one and after 35,000 miles its gotten worse, but the chevy warrenty I have doesn't cover friction parts so I'm screwed. Heck when you think about it every part on the car is a friction part. I'm just gonna run it till somthing falls off, then i'll know what the problem is , lol. I wouldn't recomend this car to anyone. Its very uncomfortable to drive for any amount of time, my hip gets a cramp in it when i drive it, the arm rests are useless so you have to hold your hands up to the wheel to drive it, which gets tireing, and the steering wheel doesn't really adjust too much to do any good. i drove it to the beach ( a 2 hour drive) and it was tourture. I should have bought a ford....

I have a 2006 Aveo, 14000 miles. I get 41 mpg/hwy and 30 mpg/city. I absolutely love my car. Yes, it has it's quirks. It's a cheap car. I've had the suspension squeaking for about a week now and have an appointment to take it in next week. I saw someone say something about the a/c smelling like mildew...Yes! I have this. I will be sure to mention it to the mechanic when I take my car in. Otherwise, I was on a budget when I bought the car, so wasn't expecting a Cadillac. I do want to say, this little car is SO roomy. I was driving a Dodge Dakota before and the seats in the truck were more comfy, but did not have nearly the room as I have in my Aveo. Again I'll say... I love my cute little cheap car. I'll always drive a chevy...NO more Dodges!

Yes, on the highway you can get 40MPG or better. Anyway, in the city it is not so easy to get better than 26MPG, but is possible. But I'm sure that the mileage in the city is a problem for all cars. Also, depending if it's winter or summer etc. But, from my experience (I own a new Aveo, 2006) the mileage on the highway is very very good, even if I drive (regularly) with 120-140 Km/h.
I have all season tires and I'm very satified.
Reliability ? Is done (mine anyway) in south corea, but they are doing small cars for decades. So this car is made by the ones that know what they are doing. I think that GM made a good choice buying Daewoo, and not inventing the wheel again.
Sorry for my english, I hope my comment can help you

I have an appointment to take my car in next wednesday, but thay said thay may not find anything wrong with mine because the light is not on. I was stupid I did not but the extented warranty. And in my first year I have put 18,000 miles on my car. I'm rather nervous about this car. Chevrolet Dealers lie more than politicans, at least they do in my area.

you have untill 3year/36000 miles to add the warranty, they may tell you they can't, but thats a lie. Just pester them and you should be able to get one for around $1000-1500 depending on mileage coverage you want and crap.

I think i got mine for $1300 and it's for 7 years 85,000 miles

Yes but they want $ 150.00 extra a month for 12 months. And that is just crazy to me.They told me I could add it later when I bought it but I just assumed it would be reasonable and it would be added to my car payment. I would have President Bush over my house before I bought a another car from Chevrolet.
