I have a 2006 Aveo. I drive 148 per day round trip. I have 29,000 miles on the car. The last few months on five different occasions I could not get gas to go in the tank. I brought the car in and they said there were spider webs in the breather line. Which I think is very odd. Antway they were able to put gas in it after they poked out the cobwebs with a wire. Off I went happy. Well I tried to fill up this morning with a 1/4 tank of gas, I could only get $1.27 in the tank. Ican only fill the tube going to the tank. The gas spills out and seeps in extremely slow. Has anyone out there experienced this. I know this sounds crazy. Please help.

DanV wrote: <quoted text> Faulty fuel guage? Dan No, the fuel gage works. I can fill it and drive for a couple days ( 300 miles ) and go to the gas station and I cannot put gas in. I can only fill the tube that leads to the tank. The gas spills out and sits there. It won't go down. I have the car at the dealer now.

I have the same problem Bill, it just started a week ago. What did the dealer say the second time around?

The dealer installed a canister that is filled with charcoal that sits on top of the gas tank. I have my paper work in the car so I don't have the technical terms off the top of my head. It has been working fine since they installed it. They said the canister was full of fuel from topping off my tank. I always filled it to the brim because of the miles I put on the car. Now I just round up to the next dollar when filling. It seems to be working. Let me know if you need more info. I would be glad to help. Best regards

My problem is back. The dealer has no explanation. If anyone cares I will keep you posted.

why haven't they replaced your gas tank/fuel lines? I really couldn't imagine what kind on spiders could nest around fuel long enuf to spin a web?

Same problem with my 1999 Ford Ranger. It started about two months ago. It takes 10 to 15 minutes to fill the gas tank because the nozzle continues to shut-off (like it is full) and I know it is not. I have to barely squeeze the handle or it will shut off, and I can't even lock the handle in the slowest position. Not a great scenario when it is 10 degrees outside. The nozzle must be sensing a back-pressure (like the tank was full) and shutting off, but I can't figure out why it started recently.

[I have the same exact problem. I have a 2005 Ford escape and it all started just after a few months of having the truck it would kick the gas pump out and stop it from working. The gas station guys have put the nosal in upside down to make it work. so we brought it to the dealer, they said there was a TBA recall on it,(they would only fix it if you had a problem with it) so we got it back fine for a while then all of a sudden no gas was able to get pumped in. i was geting $7 here and $10 there taking about 15 min. to get that much put in. Today we brought it to the dealer again, they have said that it was a Spider nest blocking the gas from going in. I am right there with you "HOW IS THE WORLD would a spider be able to live in the gas tank with all those fumes and everything. Let alone the spider servive long enough to make the nest. I use the truck every day, every other day i have to get gas. I drive 60+ miles a day. What kind of gas have you gotten gas from, i always go to SUNOCO. Maybe the gas stations have spider eggs in there gas pumps and that is how they get in. I find it nearly impossible for a spider to enter that actual gas tank through the tightly sealed gas cap. What are your thoughts about this?

I've tried using compressed air to blow out the vent lines that are attached to the top of the gas tank. These lines are supposed to vent the tank (let the air out) while filling it so the gas will flow in. Did not seem to help. Now I am starting to think the gas pump nozzles have been made more sensitive (shut off easier) by EPA to reduce spills/overflows at gas stations. I may try to run a wire down the fill line and see if I can find a "blockage" of some sort.

I have a 2002 Hyundai Sonata and have been having the same problem for about a month or two. Nobody seems to know what to do about it and look at me like I am crazy when I try to explain my situation. I am glad that I'm not alone, but hope we all find an answer soon.

Wow that's two people having the same trouble that I'm having. My 84 el camino has had two brand aftermarket tanks in it and it takes me forever to fill the tank and it projectile shoots the fuel out of the filler neck. So frustrating.

i got the same thing on my cutlass supreme i fill 2 to 3 dollars worth when gas comes out the top of the filler neck. i am wondering if there is a valve on the vapor line going to the purge canister ,and that it s not operating properly increasing the pressure in the fuel tank enough to keep the one way valve at the bottom of the fuel filler hose ? has anyone heard a sound coming from the gas tank like it s lost pressure suddenly like a 2 litre getting crushed a bit by sucking the air out of it?
