Has anybody had a rear end or recurring rear end problems with their '04 or any other year Avalanche? I just had to get the rear end rebuild again at 70,000 miles. The first was under warranty at about 30,000. All hwy miles and no towing invovled.

I have replaced (2) rear ends in my 03'. One at 54K and one at 80K. Luckily, I bought the extended warranty. I do tow a trailer now and then, but nothing too heavy.

My father has a 02 Avalanche and it has been making a growling sound for over 12,000 miles. He has had it diagnosed by Chevy and Auto Repair shops and they can't determine. I'm thinking Ring and Pinion is out of alignment. Its a GRRRgrrrGRRRgrrrGRRR nose and increases with speed and is also quieter in deceleration. There are no shaving in the rear-end. If anyone could respond back with their symptons or help provide advise I'd appreciate it. He's getting ready to come across country. Thank you

RE: kip's rear end. Kip offered to sell an Avalanche back glass on this forum's discussion page regarding the problems with crackng frames on such glasses. I sent the money and don't have a glass. Be cautious.
Kip, if this is unjust, just call or respond to my emails. |

Anyone had problems with the extended warranty not covering rear end probelms. My 02 Z66 started making a grinding noise that sounded like I was on rr tracks @ 93k and is now in the shop. I bought the Major Guard EXT Warranty surpassing the 102k mile limit.

Has anyone had transmission problems? I have an 2006 and pull a light trailer always with the tow switch on. Yesterday it blew apart. Also with or without a trailer in cruise control going up the slightest hill the tranny shifts from 2500 to 4700 rpm. This can't be right

Need a new remote key fob for my 05 Av. Kind of hate to go on eBay, as most are used and seem way to "reasonable" in price.
Dealer wants $52 for the fob and 45 for programming. Any thoughts or ideas? |

I have the 6.0 2007 avalanche and it has been making the same noise at low speeds since 12000 but not noticable after 15 mph. No one can track it. now at 35000, same noise and same issue. Now problems have grown from this.???? |
||||
I also have an 02 avalanche 1500. got 117K on it, started making a noise about 5000 miles ago. it started with a faint grunting under acceleration {ungh ungh ungh} almost in time with the rotation of the drive shaft. started sounding like u-joint but turns out it wasn't.it's progressed to a {RRRRrrrrRRRRrrrrRRRR} louder under acceleration and especially when slowing down. i'm a mechanic and I'm the having darndest time trying to pin point it. I've narrowed it down to somewhere in the rear end. the pinion bearings seem nice and snug, the gears look fine, no metal shaving, but i'm gonna tear it apart anyway.i'll let you know what i find. |

I have an 04 avalanche 1500 4x4 and have 81K on it. I dont tow with it. I came off the freeway and turned the cornerdoing about 15mph gave it a little gas (no ropping on it) and the rearend blew apart. Knocked holes through the diff cover..Services have all been done on the diffs, tranny, engine and tranfercase. I have the 3.73 Limited slip rearend. First time this has ever happened to me. Any way to get a beefier rear end?? Does GM know about this problem??

Appleway Chevrolet parts can fax you directions on how to program your keyfob. They did this for me.(NO COST) Hated their service dept. they tried to charge me $60 and told me it would take almost a hour. Actual time to program. 10-20 seconds. |
