AirBag Warning light and DIC

My AV had a dificult time starting one morning then right after that the AirBag light on dash came on with the message on DIC "Service AirBag" Dealer hooked up to a meter and it blew a "DTC 0100 code which indicated that it was either the front left bumper sensor (2"X 2" Piece of S*#t part made in Singapore that cost $200.00)or the SDM located under a flap of carpet under Driver seat. I checked all conections, and they appear to be o.k. AV is off warranty, so I don't want to get soaked by dealer. I would like to know if anyone else had a similar problem. I have the same problem and the dealer has no idea why but he charged me 95 bucks to "reflash" something and the light still comes on. No wonder GM is in trouble.

I have 03 Silverado, I just had to replace the airbag sensor.

I called gm, they told me if the dealer notates it as a mfg defect they will cover all costs. What else besides a mgf defect would cause it. They replaced sensor that kept making air bag light come on with 49k miles on truck at no charge to me.

Hello Matt, I own the same truck and same problem. Where is the sensor located? Passenger seat?

My Av had the same trouble for a short time and it turned out that it was simply a short in the driver's seat and it only cost me about $55.00 to fix. To check it, Move the driver and the passenger seats and see if one of them makes it go out.

60000 miles on my HD and I have the same problem. I'm not spending $90 just to have them look at it.

Are air bags realy worth the trouble, What did we all do 30 years ago, before the Big brother mandate. Stop voting for "Nanny state government" its cheaper !

Have 03 Av and have taken it to the dealer at least 5 times for the airbag warning light and the problem still exists. Finally was told that a tsp was put out by GM telling how to fix problem. Has anyone heard of this so called tsp?

Hi! My 97 Taurus had the light come and stay on. I know the bags are there for safety but I'm probably not going to drive the car as of September so is it worth it to fix. The car has ove $125,000 miles on it.

03 Avalanche, 52k miles sevice airbag back on again. The first time it came on I found the front bumper ready to fall off (GM quality has gone down the toilet). Once I retightened it was gone. Now it's on again, and of cource I'm out of town and the wife is freaking out about it. Will try to research the TSB mentioned by Phill and repost.

an airbag problem message. Had it fixed two months ago and now it's back.

My airbag light has gone off and on for 9 months. The first time I took it to the dealer,1/15/07 they said nothing could be found. On 9/8/07 they said it needed a new computer component and will cost over $600.00. I tried moving the seat and that does put the light out. GM reps said they could not help. I am a loyal GM customer and I like my dealer, but no help. A close friend who manufactures GM engines says it should be covered even at 60-80,000. Any ideas?

My airbag light and "service airbag" warning just came on in my 03 Silverado. Glad to know others have had this happen. I did find out the bag will NOT deploy...no need to worry it will blow while driving down the road. Wont come on in an accident either though. lol

I wonder if the part was made in China and the lead melted off?

I have a 2004 Chevy 2500 Suburban 4WD. My "service airbag" light kept coming on, so I took it to local Chevy dealership. They told me that it was the connection and fixed it for 2 days. Took it back, and they said the connection was broken, and would try and repair it. Fixed problem for 1 day. Took it back and they said that I needed to replace my drivers side airbag and that would fix problem. Cost me $800.00. Worked for about 5 days, took it back and they said it was a SRS connection. Fixed it. Doing good for about 3 weeks and this week the "service airbag" light keeps coming on. It will come on every other time I crank suburban. Wonder if it is in the ignition switch? Anyway, I have emailed GM about the problem. I will put it back in the shop tomorrow. Wish me luck.
