Have a 2003 Astro 2WD with 80K miles. The engine has a very slight skip/miss while accelerating up a ramp or long grade at 65MPH. The Service Engine Soon light starts flashing and stays flashing for up to 15 to 30 minutes. Had dealer check computer codes. No codes show up. Had earlier problem and had to replace the complete Spider fuel injector system, fuel filter, plugs, plug wires, dist. cap etc. A full tuneup. The Spider system was bad due to past owner had left it sitting long periods with the 10% ethenal fuel in it. Or that is what the repair folks said caused the plastic fuel lines to fail. Have also replaced all the emmission sensors and the fuel intake map sensor per the dealer suggestion. Did not help the miss problem. Any help solving this miss is appreciated. I have already spent over $2000 and still have a miss.

I have the same problem with my 99 Astro. An old guy that has two Astro vans, said to change the temperature sensor. He said when the sensor goes bad the van. Reads temperature is cold. The. The van uses excessive fuel to warm the van, which in turn causes sputtering and service light comes on. I changed the sensor and used a gas cleaner. It made a big difference but it still sputteres when accelerating from 20 to 30mphr. After 30 it gets good speed. I have talk to at least 12 people with the same problem with there Astro van.

Problem still exists. Now getting code PO306-#6 cyl misfire. Also getting O2 sensor codes. Have replaced all O2 sensors, couple of them two times. As long as I do not accelerate more than 50%, no problem. Just happens while downshifting on long grades at 65 MPH or going up ramps at 80% acceleration as it shifts into 3rd or 4th. Engine becomes very rough but if I back off, it will clear up in 20 seconds or so. Flashing CheckEngine light stays on for up to 30 min or stays on continuously. Had Chev dealer do a Top Engine Clean and it fixed it for 5000 miles first time. It started again, had it Top Engine Cleaned a second time, did not fix it second time. I am at a loss and so are several top mechanics. Any Ideas are appreciated.

Many 2000+ GM v6 models burn up the cat around 100k miles. This is almost certainly a clogged catalytic converter. The pieces break up inside and restrict exhaust gas flow thru the tailpipe causing excessive heat (that kills at least one of the three O2 sensors) and backpressure. Been thru this twice with an Astro van and a Camaro. Replace the converter (about $150 from autozone) and it'll run great.

i have the same issue with my 2001 Astro Van, had 6 codes showing including miss fires, mechanic said EGR valve, changed it out, unhooked battery but coding still there. had codes cleared but it is still miss firing. i already replaced both converters last summer.

Have owned four Astro Vans since they came out. I have a 2000 Astro now . About a year ago at about 85000 miles noticed a very subtle engine miss primarily at cruising speed and warning light would come on intermittently. Took it to a mechanic who spent an amazing amount of time with his computer trying to figure out the problem. Tried a number of simple fixes but no luck. I went on line and found an Astro Van site and folks who had a similar problem as mine. One responder who had the same problem determined that the distributor has a gear at the bottom that gets worn and causes the problem. Code he would get was 1345. He replaced the distributor. I replaced my distributor and the the engine miss disappeared and in general the van ran stronger. Now has 110000 miles and no further problems. This may or may not be your issue but may give you something to think about. Good luck.

I was told by Meinke, the rotten eye smell comes from a bad cat. converter.

My understanding is that the #6 cylinder intake valve had a habit of sticking and this is common in that engine model. Mind does the same thing

Hi guys, bought a 03 Astro set up with lift for disabled. Has 60k, great shape, BUT! Has miss or rough idle, service light says #3 & multi misfires. Replaced wires, rotor, cap, even distributor. Replaced coil pack. Still hv same rough idle and engine light on. Runs ok but NOT at idle. Starts fine cold but when warm you need to crank. Warmer it gets, the rougher the idle. Any thoughts or help greatly appreciated.

I have an 05 astro my issue was rough idle and bad miss fire seems the last tune up spark plugs were resting on exhaust manifold and arking. Burnt through wires were exsposed.

It's your distributor shaft the whole thing replace it. I had the same issue. 02 Safari had to put gas pedal to the floor to start it. Check engine would flash excess fuel going through your exhaust makes your cat smell like eggs. This will ruin your catalytic converter. Change it no more problems.
