That unforgivable sunroof design in the 08 Cadillac CTS is not a minor problem if it can’t block out 70% of the heat and the sun light when I don’t need them. It’s a major SHOW STOPPER in my opinion. Conventional Sunroof should be added as an option.

I'm in love with this car, although I haven't test driven it yet...I've been reading horrible things about this sunroof. What makes it so bad?

Well then, obvious guy says… just don’t get a sunroof.

I’m in love with the car too; it’s beautiful, stunning and elegant. I’ve test driven the car with the DI engine, it’s very powerful and responsive. A loaded 08 CTS costs about $50,000 out the door. I was about to make a deal on the car until I saw the panoramic sunroof shade, that looks cheap and made out of some sort of perforated translucent fabric, which does a poor job of blocking the sunlight; it’s also mitigating wind noise and penetrating heat when the car is parked under the sun. It’s also difficult to configure a loaded CTS without the sunroof.(That was deal breaker for me)
It was a misjudgment from Cadillac. I’m sure GM will have to cure the problem shortly, otherwise will lose some loyal customers.
On the other hand you have to see it personally to make your own judgment. Some people are complaining, and some don’t seem to care about the full time sun.

That what I told the dealer:“I need a similar car without the sunroof”; but is not as easy as it sounds. In order to get a loaded CTS without a sunroof you have to place a special order and wait between 6 to 8 weeks to get your order filled, because all top of the line cars come equipped with a sunroof. Besides the waiting period you get penalized financially by not taking the “Premium (bundled) Luxury Package (Mfr Code PDQ)’ and the 18” All-Season Tire Performance Y42; you have to select instead: Mfr Codes PDR, Y40, Y41, UAV, B19, B20 as an alternative, and that cost more money for the same care without having the sunroof. Not only that, by not selecting a car from the dealer parking lot and placing a specially order instead, you’re not in a position in making a good deal. It's just paying more for less.
Then I thought about it; I really want a loaded 08 CTS with a SUNROOF that covers the SUN when I DON’T NEED IT! It’s up to GM to fix the problem or lose some of their loyal customers.

I understand your concern about having to take a hit by ordering the car without a sunroof. It is the same with cruise control on some of the cheaper cars. You have to buy the “package” to get it. This is kind of unfair, but so is life.

As for the “six to eight week waiting period”, that is the typical wait at this time. Anyhow, if it bothers you so, then why not just buy something else. I mean really, you are not going to change GM. If they decide to offer it with the type of sunroof you like, it will take millions of dollars to change the process, and it won’t be a quick change.

That's really bad for me, as I live in the desert. Is it something that can be corrected after the fact?

My guess is at mid year or at the most 09 Model might either have a fix for the panoramic sunroof, or add a conventional opaque as a new option; I'm sure my sale wasn't the only one GM has lost. I read plenty of complaints in the internet about the sunroof; I’ve also read a couple of Car Experts reviews about it; here’s what they said:
“By Kelsey Mays

The sunshade is thin, which Cadillac says enables it to roll into a smaller space and preserve rear headroom. All the same, it does a poor job blocking out the sun and mitigating wind noise. A smaller, conventional moonroof is not available.”
And

The shade for the sunroof is some sort of perforated translucent fabric, which does a poor job of blocking bright sunlight”

Well...I test drove the car today...and yes, the sunroof was cheesy...but everything else was fabulous...SO I BOUGHT IT!!! They'll probably have some kind of fix for it sometime...but I want this car now!!! However, I do have to wait another 3-4 weeks to get the one I ordered...Red with all the fixings!!! I saw the white one first, and I thought it was perfect..until I saw the red and then there was no debate! I CAN'T WAIT...I love this car!

Another site posted use code cfn for no sunroof. We called the local dealer who called GM and confirmed you can order premium package and just delete the sunroof.

The Premium Luxury Collection package PDQ is at $8, 165.00; I understand if you don’t order the sunroof you get penalized for it. Do you have any idea how much is the CNF package? Can you also display the other website’s name?
Thanks

No comparo to the C230 as the Caddy is larger and has better powertrain. The "3 series" is too broad of a spectrum to compare it to. Narrow down which "3-Series" you're talking about and perhaps some decent opinions can be voiced. A 335i is a whole lot different than a 325i.

I sell Cadillac, as well as own one! I have no problem with the sunroof, but I will tell our GM rep that this is a topic that needs to be addressed! A few years ago GM stopped making a leather bench seat as a option, you could only get this in cloth in our 1500/2500 trucks, and I had lots of people that wanted cloth buckets. After some stink from the dealers, as well as the consumers GM made this a option on there new 2007-2008 trucks.

Jay,
Thanks for the effort; if you can get Cadillac attention to fix the sunroof shade would be great. I tried to contact them and I also sent them an email. I really love to have a fully loaded CTS with a sunroof that covers my head from the sun when I don't need it. It would be nice if Cadillac will add a conventional sunroof option to “Premium Luxury Collection” list.
If you’re interested to see how much people hate the translucent sunroof shade, just click to this link; about 50% of Cadillac Loyalists (08 CTS owners/potential owners) hate it:

Hi Folks,
I read all the comments and had to chime in. I also went to buy a "fully loaded" new 08 CTS. I was so disappointed when I saw that awful rolling sunshade that did little to block out the heat and light.
I asked the salesman about it (I am on Long Island) and he agreed it was awful and they were getting much negative feedback about it.
We tried pricing it out w/o it and yes, it was MORE money.
Then another fellow who orders their stock said that GM changed things so you can only get certain things when you order the whole shebang of options!
In other words; even if I wanted to pay MORE money to get ALL the packages W/O the roof, you couldnt anymore!
Well, I did not buy the car - as I am not a fan of sunroofs to begin with (never use 'em) there was certainly no way I wanted one with a heat allowing "shade" that looks like my old $12 temporary window covering while my house was under construction!
Shame, such a nice car otherwise.

PS Hey 70RR - I got a couple of those too! Can't believe I'm even considering a GM! Maybe I'll go for the 300C AWD.
