Anyone else experience multiple problems with their 2008 CTS in the first few months of ownership?

I purchased a new 2008 CTS DI RWD in May. I’ve logged 5,700 miles and I experienced the following problems:

Month 1: Navigation system went dark while on the road having traveled 50 miles. Called OnStar and Cadillac Assistance Center without resolution. Advised to take my car to a local Cadillac dealer. Even tried starting and shutting off the car several times (aka reboot) without success. About 60 minutes later the systems came back up on its own 30 minutes later

Month 3: Audio system suddenly stopped recognizing the 40Gb hard drive and AUX input. Started and shut off the car several times (aka reboot) without success. 30 minutes later, after starting the car, the problem went away.

Month 4: Check engine light came on and message displayed “engine power reduced”. Speed limited to 10 mph. Pretty scary situation while in traffic. Good thing I wasn’t traveling 60+ mph in the #1 lane of the freeway. Problem continued after several attempts to restart (aka reboot) the car. My car had to be towed to as local Cadillac Dealer where is now waiting for the Service Dept to open following the Labor Day weekend.

Months 2-4: My car “shutters” when backing up after a long period of inactivity. I’m worried that one of these days it will “kick” and suddenly speed up while in reverse resulting in a collision. The auto backlighting feature of the center console nav/audio system has a delay of 15-20 minutes before it automatically brightens. N:annoyed:ot a big problem beacuse I can always manually brighten the display. Just very odd. I also hear a rattling noise from the rear of the cabin. I will have the Cadillac dealer check these problems out when they deal with the “engine reduced power” problem.

What’s frustrating is that I didn’t expect to have these kinds of problems in the with a luxury car. Previously, I was the owner of (3) Nissan vehicles over 30 years, including a ’93 Maxima’ and I never encounter problems in the first years, much less the first year, of ownership as I am with my 2008 CTS.

Factory ordered a 2008 CTS 3.6DI RWD in June 2008 and have had nothing but problems similar to Riker911. It's been in the shop about 8 times now.

The problem(s) are erratic and once the dealership thinks they've fixed the problem, it migrates to another area.

The pop-up display would blank. When changing XM stations, the band would change to AM. The top tabs won't work. Cadillac dealership has changed the On-Star module (recall), radio module and screen with no luck.

The dimming would stay low, then become really bright about 10 miles down the road.

Turn the car on, the AC is off. Go 5 miles, shut the car off, restart the car, and the AC comes on automatically even if trying to heat the car. You have to manually turn the AC off.

The rattle in the back was due to a faulty clip that holds the rear deck above the seats.

The center console and main dash lights would Christmas tree going from dim to bright.

The week of Thanksgiving I returned the car to the dealership (again!) and the service manager drove it to/from work/home for a week. Finally they believe me as it started screwing up on him.

My biggest fear is what you mentioned: if the computer decides to limit speed, braking, or other driving function.

Good luck.

I have 2008 CTS AWD, and now have almost 11,000 miles on it, all without one single problem. Last week it got me home in a blizzard. I was sixty miles away at the casino.. When we went inside the sun was shinning.. But when we came out there was almost a foot of snow on the ground! I was a little worried that I was going to go into the ditch but the All Wheel drive, kept me on the road and got home safely...

I own a 2007 CTS with the 3.6 Liter Engine. I have it just under 2 years and I've had no problems with it. Most of the cars I've owned have been Cadillacs. However, my previous car was a 2004 Nissan Maxima. Although I thought it was a good looking car, I had enumerable problems with it. I had the car a little over 3 years in which there were 4 or 5 official recalls starting with the front struts - I hated the way the car rode- it drove like a brick. I know several people who told me they had the struts replaced several times and they failed again in a few months. The skyview roof shattered on its own (very dangerous), the power lumbar control had a short in it, and there was some kind of defect with the rear axle. So as you can see, any car can have problems.
As far as your CTS goes, I've never heard of the speed being limited to 10 MPH, never such a low speed. I've heard of it being limited to 70 MPH. If you're being limited to 10 MPH, you should appreciate that feature as the car is protecting you (or it) from harm. Most cars don't have that feature.
Regarding the other problems, these are very complicated machines and things can go wrong. Just as long as they can correct the problem, everything should be fine. As I said before, I have the '07 CTS with the same engine as yours and it's been great. And I've heard many positive reports from '08 CTS owners.

We have an '09 CTS, problems from day 1 include:
* Brakes squeal, replaced after 4th time in shop.
* Brakes still squeaking
* Radio changes channel & format on it's own
* Windows frost heavy on inside
* Transmission vibration
* Center Console lost power
* Entire car lost power
* Battery "slushed over". In sealed (?) trunk
* Loud wind noise in drivers side of vehicle
* Headlights (both) fog up inside lens
* Vibration in headliner
* Engine hesitates
* OnStar service kicked off, had 2 reset system
ALL of this within the 1st 8 months. Customer Care is useless. Cadillac does not stand behind their product. It is going in for the 9th time tomorrow since July 08...UNACCEPTABLE!

it's unfortunate. I was planning to get a CTS this year (by summer). However, the more research I do, the more I find out about this car having reliability issues - from thigns described above, to tires wearning out early, and vibration/noise issues from the trunk area. I wonder if Cadillac (GM) is cutting corners due to the bad economy/losing money - resulting in cheaper parts. I would not put it past them. You'd think they would realize that quality means more repeat customers and less warranty repairs - both causing increased revenue. Will they ever learn?

I, too, was looking to purchase a 2009 Cadillac CTS in November. I am glad that I have been privied to, not only comments from long time Cadillac owners, but infomation such as this as well. Those that posted comments seem to be experiencing similar problems with their vehicles. I have never had a desire to purchase a GM car, and now I see why. Sad thing, though...it's such a good-looking vehicle!:>(

For all of you with radio, USB/iPod, and Nav problems. Your dealership needs to replace your whole radio. Mine was done once and again 3 months later. No problems since.

Had my 09 CTS 2 months now and can only say what a FANTASTIC car it is ..traded in my 325 BMW which was a well tuned nice handling vehicle... but goes nowhere near the joy of getting into my CTS which is superbly finished inside and out drives like a dream handles well and is responsive. As with all mechanical items probs can happen but thE CTS is 2nd only to Lexus in the official reliability surveys. Sorry to hear of those that have had electrical/audio probs but after owning numerous cars can only relish turning on this beast which makes a typical car stereo sound like and perform like a cheap stereo. If you are considering a new CTS go for it ... IF YOU WANT TO BE BORED TO DEATH GO FOR THE USUAL JAP OR EURO... I'M A CADILLAC CONVERT AND NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD BE !!

I'm with "Kiwi." I've driven it all...bmw 3, bmw 5, nissan altima, land rover, toyota mr2, toyota prius, volkswagen jetta, 3 different subaru legacys, jeep wrangler...too many to list. Bought a used 08 CTS w/DI and totally loaded earlier this year. Haven't ever driven a better car. It handles well, it's fast, and it's beautiful inside and out. Once small problem (leak on a transfer case seal) that was a recall. If Cadillac keeps making them like this, I'll never buy anything else again.

I see we all have simlar problems with our CTS. Did not expect this. I had no problem with my 2004 DTS. I love the car, but not the problems.
