GM may drop some brands and add small cars

General Motors Corp. may get rid of some brands, speed the introduction of small cars from other markets and make further white-collar job cuts as it tries to deal with a shrinking U.S. auto market.

Why is the GM board of bystanders going to wait till August to make decisions that should have been made 4Q 08?

Union workers concerns aside, GM must (not should) sell or close some of its divisions just to stay afloat.
GMC is on the top of the list because all of its products are rebadged models from other divisions.
And Saab; they should have never purchased it in the first place. Same goes for Hummer. Maybe they should sell Hummer to Gov. Ah-nold.
Buick would be next, and in my opinion, closing it is a better option than selling it. After all, they have enough competition now.
Pontiac? Who knows. A lot of the board members are from the Pontiac division, so it's a toss up.
The bottom line here is, GM needs to concentrate its advertising bucks where they'll do the most good. And they better start now, because if things stay status quo, they'll be broke by Christmas.
