Exterior Liftgate Switch Problem on 03 RDV

Hi I bought a 2003 Rendezvous CX with the exterior liftgate switch, that's located under the liftgate handle on the outside of the liftgate.

For some reason that switch does not work. The only way that I can open the liftgate is with the remote.

I tried opening the cover (inside the liftgate) for the tail bulb replacement and found out that there is a yellow/black wire with a 2-pin socket at its end hanging there.

It seems like that this wire has come lose of the switch and needs to be plugged back in.

Now my question is that does anyone know how to remove the panel inside the liftgate to access that switch from inside.

If I just remove the panel covering the Tail Lights, that is too high for any work to be performed on the liftgate exterior switch. It seems like the whole panel at the bottom of liftgate needs to be removed.

All your answers will be greatly appreciated.

Please Help!

Just to add on to the above post:

Some of the later models of 2003 Rendezvous did have a liftgate switch on the exterior of the door, like mine does. Its rare, but it does exist.

On my 2003 RDV, there's no liftgate release switch (on the instrument panel) inside the vehicle.

When I was dealing with all my problems, I checked the recalls, If my memory serves me right there was a recall on the switch. Check the Recalls for your vehicle and the year of your vehicle and if there is a recall and it tells you it is not for your VIN# then Call and complain, and maybe they will add your VIN to the recall, it may take a few months, but if you complain enough they will do something.

I have a 2005 RDV and access to the rear hatch latch and switch involves removing the smaller "hatch" cover that really doesn't get you anywhere and the larger trim cover that goes around the rear window. To do this you need to obtain a trim removal tool kit from an auto parts store or Harbor Freight. These tools are made of fiberglass or plastic so that the plastic panels will not be damaged like if you use a screwdriver. Also do this on a warm day or a heated garage if you want to keep from cracking or breaking the panels.
Now use the trim tool that resembles a right angle pry bar starting at the top inside around the window work the short end of the pry bar between the glass and the panel until it pops away. Keep working around the window. There are several clips that you are releasing. Now look at the lower part of the panel and you will notice numerous white plastic tabs approximately 1 inch dia. Use the same plastic tool as before and pop each of these up and then the panel comes right off. You should then see the latch assembly under a clear plastic cover that you can peel open to gain access. To reassemble just reverse the proceedure. Align the various clips up with thier hole and tap with the heal of your hand or a rubber hammer.

Why would Buick make the 2003 RDV without a liftgate switch. Now that I have lost my remote door opener I cannot get into the hatch of my vehicle. A new remote will cost $200.00 plus, now what were they thinking when they made this decision?

eBay and you can program it
