After investing about four hours on the internet and on the phone...I got GM to pay 50/50 for my head-gasket ($750 of $1500) on a '02 Rendezvous w/ 65K original miles and no extended warrantee. How? Read on...

Once I was quoted the price of repair from the dealership, I started doing research on-line. I found that the issue with GM gaskets degrading due to the antifreeze is a known issue with GM. It has been actually reported on four times in GM Technical Service Bulletins. GM replace the gaskets in '03 models. There are multiple class action lawsuits being perused, including a big one in Canada. Next, I consulted a lawyer. Who was very helpful. She suggested that I call the dealership and state the facts and request GM pay for the repair through their dealership. So I called the dealership back and talked with the Service Manager. Very friendly and helpful. Upon stating the facts to him, he agreed I had a case that I should take to Buick. He told me that if my Rendezvous was under 60K, he would just submit the bill to Buick. But since I was over that, I would have to take my case to Buick themselves. So I called Buick's customer service (8oo-521-73oo). After again explaining my issue, I was given a ref code and my issue was passed onto a Customer Service manager. She gave me her full name, direct phone number and asked some more questions. From here she put me on hold and called the service manager back at the dealership to match my info and story. As luck would have it, the district service manager (covers the entire STL area) was in the building at the time. So, the service manager, district services manager and Buick's CS manager compared notes. They concluded that even though my car was outside the 60K mile limit of full coverage of this type of repair (they knew about it), they were willing to go 50/50 with me on the repair. So, even though I still have to pay for part of the repair...I saved $750. Not totally happy. But better than nothing.

My advice to all...write down everything...exact diagnosis, costs, time, vin, who, what, where and when. You will be asked all these things. And keep your receipts. As my legal advice told me..."My gut feeling is that GM will either voluntarily recall this vehicle, or the government will make them recall it eventually." And when/if that happens, GM will have to pay refunds on these types of repairs.

Good luck...fight with knowledge.

I'm glad you were able to resolve your issue with GM. The thing that puzzles me is that I also am in the St. louis area in Illinois, and my buick dealer estimate repair bill was only $900.00 for my 03 Rendezvous.
They were going to do the following: replace gaskets, change oil, and drain remaining dex-cool and replace. My engine did not have an overheating issue because another auto repair shop caught the problem before it got to that point.(that repair shop also quoted $700 to do the job. They said that they do 2-3 of these repairs a month.

I had to replace the intake gasket @ 53,000 miles on our 03 RDV. Six months latter @ 60,000 miles the head gasket started leaking. My solution- traded the 03 RDV for a Nissan Murano- no more GM products for me

I have a 2003 Chevy Impala with 47,900 miles on it. I brought it in to the dealer to have it diagnosed and they said it needed lower manifold intake gaskets, water pump, flush of dexcool because of contamination @ a cost of $1150.00. I brought it to a independent mechanic who came highly qualified and he agreed. I had him do the work as I spent over 6 hours between the two. GM now is saying because the dealer did't do the work thewre is no cash, good will etc.

I find that the GM rep telling me this without any bulletins or recalls etc is unfair to me.

Ahh yes,,,more GM junk. The tijuana taxi as I call it. <Rendezvous' are made in Mexico> My 2003 Rendezvous also has the gasket problem. I have worked 30 years for GM & I am done with them. I do not fit in their full size trucks, I am 6' 7". I drive a Ford super duty. The Rendezvous is my wifes and I can sort of drive it <more head room than their full size truck> Three front wheel bearings, speakers, and two starters during warranty and now this. I work at Orion assembly where we assemble the Pontiac G6, I think when these Grand Am replacements start falling apart, we all know what junk the Grand Ams are, during the new 100,000 mile warranty <marketing ploy only> it will be the death of GM. They won't be able to afford to fix all the crap they're building today. The execs @ GM only drive these junkers about 90 days then turn them in, try one till about 75,000 miles then get back with us. But don't you know the fact that the workers have health insurance is killing them, yeah, right. Just looked at the new Ford Super Duty this morning it is awesome. The next vehicle for the wife will more than likely be the new Ford Edge. It looks real nice too.

This just happened to me this morning. It appeared that my battery had gone dead. The security light came on first, thank goodness I had only driven a block. I took ot to the dealership and they found no problem except that leaking intake, a $1200 repair.

i recently bought 2003 rendezvou now my heat is cool when i stop and defrost is cool all the time. I checked antifreeze level and i was low but could not get the cap off radiator. bought and extended warranty but i dont think that will cover any problems i read about i feel the dealership Ganley dodge on west side of cleveland was aware of the problems and i feel tooken advantage of. What can I do? I think if gm knows about these problems they should give every dime back to us comsumers. lets make something happen im tired of getting ripped off. I had to buy it used because i could not afford a new car,so disappointed that retailers and car makers are so shady if a class action suite is on the way count me in. All hard workers singles mother beware of long sharks like ganley dodge take your time and shop around.

I just had my '02 Rendezvous lower intake gasket repaired. I had no coolant and no puddles in my driveway either.
Extended warranty covered this, but still
it's a pain to have to take the car in so often. I've also had blower motor resistor repaired because the heater worked on high speed only. It just turned 60,000 miles . Before the extended runs out , I'll be running out to trade it in.
Postings on websites don't look promising to keep the car until 100,00 miles.
Too bad, I like the ride, just not the one I'm getting from the repair shops and Buick.

'02 Rendezvous with 75K miles. I had a mechanics replaced the intake gasket for $800. After I got the car the "Service Vehicle Soon" light was on. Code DTC B1000 which translates to "Replace Body Control System". This was OK before leaving the car at the shop. The mechanics said he has nothing to do since he only worked on the engine. I am taking the car to the dealer tomorrow. If you know any way to get some money back from GM or information about DTC B1000 please e-mail [email protected]

I bought a higher mileage Buick Rendezvous. I like the quiet driving it offers. They originall put really crappy door hinges on the car and I had to pay to replace them with the hinges they put on the new models. I have a bad wheel bearing. As far as the engine goes, I have no trouble and I get considerably good gas mileage. I think buick made this car way to heavy which is probably why the bearings are failing.

I bought a 2003 Buick Rendevous in November 2005, it has been nothing but a nightmare. I have had older vehicles without payments that I have not put this much money into. In October 2006 I shelled out a total of around $1000.00 for a body control module. That was an extended period of in the shop out of the shop trying to find the problem, it's not only the price of the repair but the total inconvenience of it too. So, March 2007 back in the shop for gaskets leaking, another $600.00 and now I take it into the shop 2 days ago because the service engine light was on AGAIN and it is the A/C condenser and several problems in the transmission including the torque connector clutch. I'm told $3000.00 would be a conservative estimate. If any attorneys or wifes of attorney's are reading these, how do we get organized enough to do something about this? I'm thinking about an individual lawsuit for the $$$ I'm out, and of course no body wants these vehicles so you can't get out of it without additional losses.

We have had our 2002 Rendezvous for a little over three years. At first I loves it, and still would if we wasn't fixing it ALL the time. We have had to fix the front wheel bearings, gaskets, water pump, plastic pieces for the door tracks, front end bushings, fuel pump, condenser, and now our service traction system light is on. So in turn We have spent so much on it that I hate it. Buick is (was) suppose to be a very good vehicle---boy they went wrong making this stupid thing. Having 2 small children, I for one can't afford payments and "up keep." I need it to be reliable but I gave that hope two years ago. So if anyone knows of a lawsuit and who to contact, I would love the information. They need to recall all of them and repay all of our $ back, car payments and repairs.

It has not been comforting to see how many people are having the same issues with GM as I have. We purchased an 89K mile 02 Rendezvous in Jan. and in the past 9 months we've had to replace the battery, alternator, fuel gauge (inside the tank), volume control on the steering wheel, front passenger seat control. In the last two weeks we have an antifreeze leak, warm a/c, leak in the sunroof, both front doors rubbing and first 3 speed controls on the blower are inoperational.
The dealer is working with me now but we'll see what happens...I miss my Japanese cars!!!

I bought my 02 RDV CXL about 2 years ago, and have had nothing but problmes. I have had the BCM replaced 4 times, the intake twice, ignition once ("re-sealed" later), stereo twice, AC condenser twice, and many other minor repairs. I have an extended warranty, but it is about to run out, and I am worried. I called BBB to try to get GM to buy the car back, but since it was past the original warranty, I am out of luck. I plead my case to GM Customer Service many times, but each time, I am left out to dry. I had a GM dealership repair shop refuse to service my car anymore since they could not fix the problem. GM insists on a second opinion. However it will cost me a few thousand dollars to get the diagnostics to "prove" the problem. I am just not willing to go through this again. If anyone knows of a law suit or maybe even just a good lawyer, I'd be all over that.

BTW - I asked GM to send me a full service history of my vehicle, and they refused. When I asked them to send me a letter of refusal in writing, they refused. I am in disbelief.

Where is the blower motor resistor located on a 2002 rendezvous.----As you can guess the heater blower is not functioning, amongst other electrical glitches this vehicle is having. This one I can't ignore, 2 small children.

I am having the same problem. I don't think we need to let them get away with this. I am paying too much to have these problems

I am having the same problem. I think we should all do something about this. I don't know what, but if we can get a lawsuit, that's what needs to be done. Count me in as well
