BMW job cuts unlikely here
Luxury car maker BMW has signaled its work force in Germany could be facing the first significant job cuts in a decade, as the company tries to increase profitability.
According to reports in The New York Times and German magazine Der Spiegel, the Munich-based car maker could be cutting as many as 8,000 jobs. But few, if any, jobs in the United States are expected to be lost.
Bobby Hitt, spokesman for BMW Manufacturing Co. at Greer, said he could not comment on the news reports because he had not received any official statements from Germany. Read more
