My question is how come BMW can get 35 mpg out of a 3 litre diesel in an SUV and Daimler Chrysler cannot with the Jeep Grand Cherokee 3 litre diesel? And the BMW is way too expensive. If I am going to spend $50000 on something it better have propellers on it.

Tommy,

Yes, I realize there are other factors, but, the issue is why BMW can do this and DCX cannot?

this is simple, German, and especialy BMW technology is hard to copy by anyone, teh're are the leaders and benchmark for auto industry around the world. americans will never be able to even get close with their vehicles. Keep in mind that it's not only the engine but the entire product strting from suspension to the interior that's way better then any domestic product. $50000 might seem like a lot, conversely, once you own and drive a bimmer, youll undestand that your money was very well invested, don't waste your dollars on domestic junk

Driving a BMW is about a special "Feeling", a feeling that you are so connected the driver to the road, the vehicle and the environment around you. It can be an exhilirating experience. I am sure a lot of the puriest can resonate with me.
