Hi all. Have a 2001 X5 4.4. Wont rev over 4000 rpm. They have tried evrything and diagnostics does not show faults. Otherwise its smooth. No misfire. Has anyone had a similar problem. Im hoping its a simple problem.

Where do I start? 2001 X5 BMW 4.4L. Purchased with 90,000 miles. 3 months later, driver outside door handle froze, Back passenger window doesn't stay up, passenger window button broke, rotors replaced 2-3 times, leaks oil, trans-fail safe error, brake light comes on while driving, replaced radiator hoses, replaced both front left & right lower control arms, hmm what else? oh, replaced steering rack, vehicle is extremely hard for the average shop to align, blinkers & fog lights go out frequently.Purchased for 10,500, I've spent over $5,000 in less than 2 years... DON'T BUY THIS VEHICLE BMW SHOULD RECALL THEM ALL !

2012 BMW X5 35D HAS BEEN A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT AFTER CONSECUTIVELY BUYING 2004, 05, 07, 08,'10 AND '11 X5s!

THIS X5 IS A NIGHTMARE - RIGHT FROM DAY ONE ELECTRONICS STARTED GOING ON/OFF IN THE IDRIVE SCREEN CANCELING OUT SENSORS AND REAR VIEW CAMRA AT CRITICAL TIMES!

THEN THERE HAS BEEN MAJOR OIL LEAKS SO FAR 2-3 THREE TIMES -VERY HAZARDOUS!

RIGHT NOW I AM TAKING UP THE CASE WITH BMW FOR THIS ONE BEING A LEMON! HOPEFULLY BMW N. AMERICA RESPONDS EFFICIENTLY!

I own a 2003 BMW X5, and mine runs great, I didn't have so many issues as I see on the comments above.
I had many different cars and SUV's before this one but, I think BMW has less issues than other cars out there. The only problem I see on X5 is the Auto transmission, yeah, that scares me sometimes.

Is it a good idea to change gear box oil on BMW x5 diesel after 100,000 miles?

Help! What to do....I have, well had a 2004 BMW X5 w/ only 80k miles...driving back from a business meeting on major highway and see sparks coming from back of SUV. Pull over to rest stop, get out of car and flames underneath front of vehicle. Then smoke coming from hood. Called 911 and the fire dept came. Now towed to dealership and adjuster says totaled and too expensive to repair. Burned too bad to see what was the route of cause. Why would this suddenly happen?? No issues prior. Great vehicle!!

Purchased new in December of 2006 a 2007 X-5 Loaded, 7 passenger, panaromic roof, sports package, tech package, naviagation etc. This car wa continuallyin the shop while under warranty, for one thing or another, most not major but annoying non-the-less.
It had just turned 49,000 miles and naturally, out of my waranty when the water pump had a catatrophic failure on the highway with no prior notice. I nursed it by shutting the engine on and of for 2-1/2 hours in order to drive safely to an exit where I could have it towed to my dealership. had the repairs done for $1,600 + a $200 tow fee. Two days later I trade it in at another car dealer or something more reliable as I feared that I could have possibly done internal damage to the engine and I didn't want to invest one more penny on this clunker. According to BMW blog sites , BMW was aware of water pump problems and did not issue a recall. The pumps were known to fail between 32,000 -70,000 miles - While BMW may have the aura of prestige, it lacks in reliability. Buyer beware.

Just purchased a 2009 X5 3.0 in December. This is the third BMW I have owned but the first SUV. I love the performance of the BMW, so I keep going back to it. However, I was amazed at the number at mpg of this vehicle--not good. With gas prices being as high as they are, the average consumer wants to get the best gas mileage that they can. Within 6 days I put about $125 in the tank--again not good. Looking at the Prius now. I know there is no comparison to the X5 but certainly it will save money in the long run.

If you are thinking about purchasing one, you may want to rethink that and consider a comparable vechicle with not as many problems as I have read the various posts from disatisfied owners.

My car does not have a diesel engine but it is still drinking gas like it's water. Perhaps I have a heavy foot too. I just purchased my 2009 x5 in December and getting rid of it now. Can't afford to keep putting over $100 in the tank within a 6 day period.

Have 03 x5 3l , driving great and one morning went to drive it and it would move forward or back , it's autmatic . Left it parked started it again and it drove 30 meters and stopped . Would this be the gear box . It's slight low on oil . And what is the best oil for it ?
