On the dash board LEDS going bad. Very common problem on these SUVs. Everyone I've looked at has this issue. Some worse than others. Anyway ( and I'm not affiliated or have not yet tried it) I see a guy on ebay repairs these for $179. Just google BMW X5 dash repair. You have to take it out and send it. Think they where located in southern California. Hope the lead helps someone.

Bob....I had the same thing happen to my 03. It cost around $400. to fix. I would suggest you get the window regulator replaced (figure another $400-500) while they have the door apart because it will break soon after, mine did as well as a coworker's 06.

I have a 2001 X5 3.0i but have only seen a couple of the issues you are seeing. For example: burning oil, issues with noise when going over bumps, i've had oil gaskets replaced etc. I think now, i will need front bushings and ball joints replaced.

I own 3.0 x5 2003 80k miles. I'm very good driver and take care about the car but... X5 is not even close by reliability or quality as i had E39 528i 1999.
for now , i have :
-not working cruise control
-resistor blower replaced 3 times
-not working driver's side window
- driver's side mirror is not 'closing'
- the shaft for turning wheel is shifting slightly and knocking sound comes up every time i turn right or left
- front suspension need to be replaced - all ruber joints are 'dead'
- right front break piston is replaced, but still air is coming into brakes lines ...
- engine is eating oil every 5-7k miles - need to put 1q or 2q every time.
- noise from rear driving shaft is getting more and more severe.
-rust all over internal pannell metal parts... where should not be any leak or water damage.
comfort of driving is definitely better for BMW than for Crysler but BMW X5 does not have such quality as sedans.
not to forget - BMW X5 is assembled in USA not Germany. i won't buy X5 never again. i'd go with Japanese SUvs for next buy.

I feel for everyone. I see no one is happy. I have 2003 X5 and have had all the same problem as everyone else. The makers of BMW should be reading this and do something about it or they will loose there reputation and all there clientelle. Everything made today is crap starting with X5s. I will be selling mine in spring and never buying another one again!!!

Change filter and oil of your gearbox immediately to avoid breakdown! Be advised that you should probably change the oil 2-3 times to get all the old oil out.

I want to buy a bmw X5 2007 3.0i with 60k mileage anyone drivin this car who can give a rough overview. Most comments are for older cars. Gone are the days when cars like 404 peugeot were made, my uncle boast of one he bought in 1970s its still runnin on almost 50years later. Companies cant make money on such cars were you buy one car for the rest of your life. After 10years most modern cars have problems. Just like human beings they get sick with age.

I purchased my diesel 2011 x5 brand new. Today it lost power on the highway and barely made it to the shoulder. It was just in service to weeks ago to have the brake pads replaced for the second time in less than two months! This is my 5th BMW and definitely the last, it was pure luck that I didn't get hit today. The little problems are not a big deal but losing power on a busy highway with hardly a warning is unacceptable.

What do you expect from a 10 year old. You would have replace a Tahoe twice by now.

I bought my 2001 x5 4.4 last year...Wheel bearings went after 1 month...then had to replace the horn system...then the door handle froze and broke off during the cold snap...then had to replace all 4 bushes and suspension arm...now i need a new ball joint at rear cos it squeaks!!!1,300 worth of repairs in 10 months!!!
I can believe you are complaining of a few issues with a 9 year old vehicle.
Why did you buy it? These are questions to ask! Can I afford repairs to this vehicle?Secondly every first gen vehicle has some issue.

Sorry to be harsh but this is reality.

Yeah the same story everyone wants a high end vehicle thinking it won't fail but when it needs work it's the end of the world! Please buy Japanese or domestic you again will see failures and will notice the repair costs are comparable. Research before you buy stop complaining and buy something you can live with maybe

I bought my X5 2 months ago , so far its had all new front bushings / ball joints , I got all oils changed and new tires , i dont mind that part because i new they needed to be changed before i bought it but now i have big problem with AC , it was working fine and when i got ball joints changed in the garage the AC stopped working , so far they changed filter and AC pump and its still the same , the problem is it blows cold but not cold enough from the driver side and warm air from passenger side , i have had lots of BMW s but this one is really starting to drive me crazy . Any idas ??????????
If you have dual zone ac it maybe an issue with the control unit, if not usually it is an undercharged A/C system. Have it checked for the proper charge of freon.
