any body had a sunroof mysteriously shatter for no apparent reason

Yesterday driving over the 26 mile Causeway with nothing overhead and no cars around heard a horrible loud noise and the sunroof totally shattered in my wifes BMW X3 2004
I typed in shattered sunroof and got this site

Today my sunroof shattered on my 2002 Lincon LS,no rocks,no reason,this is a strange one.

Happened to me on 10/31 in a brand new 2007 Toyota Highlander. Tech at Toyotsa said something had to hit it. I said not true - there was nothing/no one around me. Just a sudden boom as it shattered.

the x3 has a defect on the sunroof when open. an insulation strip and repack of the sunroof assembly resolved my buffeting

This just happend to me this past Sunday, I heard what sounding like the ice and snow off my 05 Optra 5's roof, but my sunroof shattered into a million little peices.

I had a 2006 BMW 325Xi loaner from the dealer, i was driving 65 mph on the highway, never saw anything hit the car but the sunroof completely shattered...looked like an explosion came from the inside of the vehicle. Heat was not a factor, it was December 15th in NY.

2000 s430, same thing happened tp me. have no idea why. looks like the explosion came from the inside.

My dads got a Bmw X3 in black with a sunroof, heated seats, leather, bluetooth and alloy wheels

I was driving along the highway and heard what sounded like a gunshot. My sunroof exploded...and go figure, now it's Monday and I've called the dealer...no one there has ever heard of this happening...it makes me sick that they pull this baloney! I have a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta...that I really like. It's the dealer I have problems with.

My wife was driving our 1996 Toyota 4Runner yesterday when the sunroof exploded from the inside. No other cars around, no objects. on 04/05/07. No reason, no cause.
Took it to the dealer last night, they said they have heard of that happening 3 to 4 times before. They didn't think it was a big deal, but I do!

2004 bmw x3, driving along a two lane highway, no one around and i heard a loud noise like a gunshoot or explosion and my sun roof shattered, leaving an implosion hole in the roof (as if i threw a rock through it from the inside out). about 5 minutes later, the shattered sunroof fell apart on me. Took it to BMW immediately and they told me something must of hit the glass. they kept it almost a month, waiting for a bmw rep (several) to come out. never would admit fault and had to put it through insurance. only cost me $50 on my comprehension, but i know there is a defect in those very large sunroofs! still love my x3, but hate bmw service.

I own a 2003 VW Passat which I was driving on Interstate 195 this week. While doing about 65 mph I heard what sounded like a shotgun blast above my head. My windows were up and the AC was on. I also had the sun screen for the sun window closed. When I pulled over and opened the sun screed I found a hole about the size and shape of a football right in the middle of the sunroof glass. There was very little glass in the car which makes me believe that the window blew out. I was also not near an overpass where an oblect could have been thrown onto or dropped onto my car and I did not see any rocks tossed up off the road from another vheicle. The local VW dealer (shop mechanic) said he had only seen somthing like this once before. I called VW and they told me I was out of warantee. The representative did say to call back once the repair was complete and they would look into the possibility of reimbursing me for some of my insurance deductable.

I had the same same thing happen to me on my 2007 BMW 335i yesterday! I was cruisin down the freeway at about 65-70mph and suddenly BHAM! It sounded like a loud pop, then glass fell all over me. I took it straight to the dealer and found a big whole in the glass bigger in size than a football, but it didn't seem like that much glass fell into the car. Also, the remaining glass around the edge of the sunroof (what was left of it) was pointing upward slightly. A friend was driving not too far behind me and heard some debris hit his windshield. The dealer was going to charge me, but I convinced them to replacement it for me under warranty (car is only a few months old). Also, temperature didn't seem to be an issue. It was about 75 degrees outside and I had the A/C on at about 73 inside.

What about a shattered window? Yesterday, the rear passenger window on my BMW X5 shattered for no reason as we were driving down the freeway. Of course, BMW says that they've never heard of a window shattering for no reason so "they won't step up to the plate".

This morning a got in my 98 Jetta to just move it out of the drive way and heard a loud noise and the back winshield shattered. There was a big whole and shattered glass all in the back seat. The glass that is left is also shattered. I didn't slam the door. We had a storm last night, but it doesn't look like anytjing it. We had house shaking thunder. Could that cause it???

Yesterday my sunroof exploded on a nissan Murano 2006 model. 2 years earlier on another Murano the rear window exploded when both our passenger doors were shut.
