we have purchased a bmw x3. Does anyone know if we can bypass the audible warning chime if we do not put on our seatbelts? The warning chimes for approx 3-4 minutes. How can we eliminate it entirely?

Or better yet don't smoke. Yeah right! How about answering the question instead of telling people what to do

Greg, I also have the same problem with a 3 series BMW, but I also have it on my 2007 S550 Mercedes. It is even more annoying. If you figure how to disable them please let me know at ddoff@yahoo.com. Thanks

Odd... my 2004 X3 doesn't chime with the seatbelt off. Just a red light on the dash comes on.

Go to your local import car tuner speed shop. The guys at mine just hooked-up their laptop to my 2006 Audi A4 and turned it off - Voila, just like that!!! Good luck.

If I just keep the seatbelt fastened at all times whle driving, will that eliminate the annoying chime? I literally drove as far as two driveways without my seatbelt on and the chime nagged me for about 20 miles.

The problem isn't driving without my seat belt; I always wear it. The problem is getting home and getting my sleeping 8mo. old daughter out of the car and into the house without waking her up.

Clixoff and other knock-off seat belt ends won't do it. I want to be able to use the seat belt without it bitching at me, not drive without the seat belt.

Here's instructions for Ford... anybody got anything for other brands?

I wish I knew how to disable the chimes. My Audi is the same way and it drives me nuts. My rental Audi in Europe this past month did not feel it was necessary to tell me to put on a seat belt, the door was open, my lights were on etc. It was bliss to have peace. The safety Nazi group feels they have to watch you. European seat belt compliance is higher than in the USA so I am not convinced of the argument it is "needed".

Guys, my Audi A4 is the same, it is ANNOYING TO BOOT, I AM NOT GOING TO BUY AUDI ANYMORE probably because of one STUPID BELT AND DOOR NOISE. It is ridiculous. I am right now looking for a "tune" shop, but tehre's a solution #2:

A device just like Clixoff, that inserts into a female belt buckle, only it has a male end on one side, and female on the other. Basically, like a converter. It stays plugged in all the time, and if you want to fasten seat belts - just plug it into its female end. There seems to be NO SUCH DEVICE ON THE MARKET, A MILLION DOLLAR OPPORTUNITY HERE!!!

I've been having the same problem with my x3-- even with my seatbelt on, the chime will go off for 5 minutes at a time, almost randomly through my car ride.

A dealership asked me if I leave my purse on the passenger's seat.

Sometimes yes, sometimes on the floor, sometime I have a passenger, sometimes I don't.

Problem: Turns out there's some kind of sensor in the seats that notices if I have a passenger (or a heavy purse) and wants the passenger seat to be buckled up.

Remedies: I'll try leaving my purse in the backseat and the dealership recommended I buckle up the passenger seat as well if it still goes off.

Break off the actually seat belt buckle, go to your BMW dealership and ask them to replace it, keep the broken belt buckle and leave it in the buckle.
