My 2006 X3 has had the battery die out three times in a 6 week period and they replaced the battery twice! It's getting a drain from somewhere and if I don't start the car everyday and drive it for at least 10 miles, it will go dead yet again. I am suing under lemon law as the car is only 18 months old with 12,000 miles and I'm beyond frustrated.

Saw other X3s in there with the same problem...one guy had it happen over 4 times with his X3.

I also encountered a problem with the battery (10/31/07). It seems that the battery is not covered under the no maintenance program despite having a 2004 X3 with 9,5000 miles. I was told that if I don't drive my car more than 10 miles per day, the battery will drian again and it will not be covered under the warranty. I am very upset because I was told to read the owners manual regarding this policy, and the policy only stipulates that "less than 10 miles...for a prolong period of time." I guess this policy is subject to a dealer's own interpretation.

To answer your question, the battery is located under the load floor at the back compartment (it's not like other batteries located by the engine.

My 2006 x3 has had a dead battery 10 times. Battery replaced once by dealer once. It was ok for a year but problem restarted again. Car has 2400 miles on it. Dealer said plug a trickle charger on it, no way./

Hello Jack - you mentioned other batteries under the hood? Where are they and what are they for? I am having +++ problems with recurring DB on my 1996 328i. I was told by the CAA guy who came this morning, that there is another battery "that powers the electrical" under the hood (not under the floorboard in the trunk, which is where the main battery is).

Hi

BMW X-3 2007 Battery problem twice less than 16K. Today is completly dead have to call BMW service morning to check it out? I hope warranty cover this probably not. It must be problems with the 06-07 BMW X-3? Does X-3 2008 have any problems?

I started having problems with dead batteries on my 06 X3 after I got a new Blackberry cell phone. Turns out even though the phone worked with the car, the car didn't work with the phone. I switched back to my old phone and the problem went away. There is a (short) list of approved phones that you can use with the X3 and if you use one that is not on the list it messes with the vehicle computer and you get a dead battery. Too bad BMW only seems to have some older phone on the list. It absurd that the popular Blackberry Curve cannot be used with the bluetooth link without ending up with a dead battery.

why don't you unplug the battery when you go away on vacation (lucky you!) for three weeks? you'll only mpg data and time and date; but your battery would be OK I suppose; otherwise..........

this might help you guys : it was taken from consumers guide : reliability for bmw x3 2004-2008.
but i dont have the solution .

2004-2008 BMW X3 Reliability
Trouble Spots
Consumer Guide'sŪ Auto Editors have scoured repair bulletins and questioned mechanics to search for commonly occurring problems for a particular vehicle. In some cases we also give possible manufacturer-suggested solutions. In many instances these trouble spots are Technical Service Bulletins posted by the manufacturer, however, we have our own expert looking at additional vehicle problems.

Battery: The battery may die overnight if the key is left in the ignition on vehicles with electronic immobilizer system.(2004-06)
Battery: Battery can die after parked for 3-4 days most likely due to problem in general module (body control module).(2004)

Electrical problem: The transmission may intermittently revert to fail-safe mode due to multiplexing problem requiring reprogramming.(2005-06)
Engine noise: Engine may ping under light load, idle too high or stumble on acceleration until warm requiring ECM reprogramming.(2005-07)

Engine stalling: The engine may run rough or miss (the check engine light may also come on) due to problems with the original ignition coils and the carmaker is replacing them with Bosch coils.(2004 and prior)

Engine temperature: Engine may lose power at high altitudes (over 5,000 ft.) during hot weather due to vapor lock inside the fuel pump.(2004)
Headlights: Automatic headlights may not go off when exiting a tunnel or parking garage due to miscommunication between rain sensor and headlight module.(2005-06)

Information stickers/paperwork: When the outside temperature drops below freezing (32F) the telematics control unit may malfunction and emergency "SOS" calls will not go through. The battery may also be drained. To make sure the recall was performed, look for the sticker on the door frame.(2004)

Sunroof/moonroof: The sunroof may not close in hot weather or after being parked in direct sunlight because the channels expand and get tight and the anti-trap sensors stop the motor.(2003-04)

Daily Horoscope for January 3

Cancer

No one can accuse you of being a wallflower today! The modern cowboy or cowgirl has a tendency to shoot from the lip and you won't be afraid to tell it like it is. Your response will be quick, and your timing near perfect. If you don't accomplish what you set out to do this morning by the end of the day, it won't be for lack of trying. Getting an 'A' for effort is sometimes better than facing the test.
