Interview: Dr. Oetker and the BMW M3/335is Dilemma
We've been having an internal debate here at BMWBLOG as to which car represents the greater value, the 335is or the M3.

An e46 ("old" model") M series isn't even comparable to ANY 335i(x/s/?)- they are in two separate leagues. it's not about 0-60 times, it's about average speed around a racetrack. a 335i cannot be raced "out of the box" without improved oil coolers - many people have had these issues and you can read all about it here: http://www.google.com/search...
regardless, to 100 mph, the 335i is almost a full second slower than the "old" M - for the new, you are talking over 2 full seconds (10.3 vs. 12.7)
one is a sports sedan, the other is damn near a street legal racecar. no comparison regardless of price, apples to oranges, etc...
