Friday Fleet Notes: 5.16.08
#1 May 30, 2008
I test drove the new 09 Pilot Touring Edition last weekend. It is much more trucklike (not a good thing) than any of my two previous Pilots. While the gadgets are now in abundance, they are NOT intuitive. I had to resort to reading the owners manual during my test drive to figure out how to set the memory seats (a nice addition) and to determine how to view both the instant mpg and average mpg, among other things. The GPS uses a BMW-like Joystick to navigate thru the maze of menus - not at all as convenient as the current touch screen! On my 20 mile test drive I averaged 18.9 mpg in suburban driving and 22.3 on the highway. No improvement over my current Pilot, and less enjoyable to drive. Honda should have sleeked up the new Pilot to be a bigger CR-V, who with its 4 cylinder engine getting 28mpg, looks better each day. A big thumbs down!
