Personally I like the Dodge SRT8 more than the G8, its no doubt that in a 1/4 mile, the SRT8 will beat a G8. BUT for $33,000 u get more bang fot your buck with the G8 wile the the srt8 cost 15k more. So its all in what u like. PERSONALLY SRT8, FINAICELY, G8

Why The 2009 Camaro Is Doomed NMA ^| 5/16/08 | Eric Peters Posted on Friday, May 16, 2008 2:18:43 PM by XR7 Motorheads don’t want to hear it; refuse to believe it — but ugly realities are coming down hard on the ‘09 Camaro that will very possibly cause GM to pull the plug before the first one ever rolls off the line. Doubt that? Consider the stillborn rear-wheel-drive next generation Chevy Impala — nixed because of concerns within GM about the possibility of meeting the pending (2012) 35 mpg fuel economy edict recently passed by Congress. A lighter front-drive car with a V-6 instead of a V-8 can make the cut; a V-8 RWD Impala can’t. So it’s gone. So is the talked-about next generation GTO. And the future of the G8 sedan looks not so good. GM is openly talking about scaling back the entire Pontiac division — and ending its role as a performance brand. No bull; not my opinion. Just facts. Now consider the 2009 Camaro — and the world in which it will have to swim. Gas prices are already surging toward $4 per gallon for regular unleaded. And Camaro’s not even here yet. By the time the car reaches production status in about eight months or so, we may very well be at $5 per gallon.

G8 GT-TOO MUCH POWER

I work for a GM dealership. I may be biased. We received our first G8's two days ago. I drove the GT G8 home last night and took it out... to get milk... I floored it as soon as I left my driveway…. I have to say.. that I was quite frightened. It got up to the speed limit, 50MPH within seconds. The thing that really scared me was it didn't seem like the engine was working too hard, even when I hit 100MPH. It was so smooth. And the shifting was barely noticeable--giving it a very high-tech-euro-esche feel distinct from the other GM V8’s. I think it was the fact that the car so effortlessly got to 100MPH that really shocked me. Furthermore it seems like 90% the power is available below 3000RPM with just a low rumble furthering the illusion that the engine just isn't working even though you are accelerating like a bat out of hell... it’s quite an interesting experience. Even if you don’t want a G8 it might be worth it to try and test drive one.. I really don't understand why we need to be building cars with this much horsepower. I was utterly shocked when I read that there was going to be a GXP. One of our mechanics took out the G8-GT and turned off the traction control (something I dared not do). The tires turned like they were on a road of butter and the mechanic hadn't even floored it from a stand-still. Again.. would someone please tell me why this much power is necessary and why we need more power? As far as what the car looks like, I'd say that its more in line with a beamer when viewed from the side (the 500$ key/remote is certainly quite beamer-esche with its flip-key-remote-start). From the front you can tell it’s a Pontiac only because of the symbol. I refuse to accept the it-looks-like-a-grand-am argument with respect to the G8. The G8 appearance is definitely unique. I took the V6 version of the G8 out this evening. Nice leather interior and a BlauPunkt radio with tones of power--radio controls were a little weird, but what do you expect it’s European. I have to say that when I get my G8 I'm probably going to go for the V6. It has PLENTY of power. And the fuel economy is 35MPG+ on the highway. I do think that GM's philosophy is still wrong with respect to cars. They've got to get more fuel efficient. If I were them, I'd totally concentrate on producing the G8 V6. Bragging rights with respect to cars have gone from being horse-power based to being fuel-efficient based. You can only play the contest of maintaining power AND fuel economy for so long before you have to bite the horse-power bullet like most of the Asian cars did 10 years ago. Having said all that, I don't think that I'd even bother comparing the G8 to any of these so called muscle cars. Quite simply: the G8 is NOT a muscle car. It might be more meaningful to compare the G8 to a BMW 3 series. The look, style, and feel are much more in line with what Europe has been producing in my opinion. I'm really not sure what possesses everyone to stack the G8 against all these muscle cars. I don’t think it was GM’s intention to build a muscle car and I don’t think that it in any way has.

True, the design is mostly imported, even though they changed the exterior styling.... but isn't the company Holden also owned by GM abroad?
And what does GAY have to do with anything?
