Ughh, from the outside the Lexus IS just feels and looks like a riced up Corolla, and from the inside looks just like any other boring Lexus. That's the thing these other companies don't understand; even if they can make a car that can beat BMW in a couple categories (for example 0-60 time, skid pad, etc), it'll never come close to *beating* BMW as a whole. Driving a BMW is an all-encompassing experience. Driving an IS is just driving a souped up, and small, Lexus.

Umm.. That makes a lot of sense. If you enjoy driving ugly great handling cars, so buy a WRX.. Because even though its ugly, it will easily out accelerate AND out handle any standard BMW 3 series.

For the rest of us that like to drive performance luxury sedans, the IS350 actually looks half decent (unlike any of the recent BMWs) and out performs the 3's. I'm pretty sure that it handles a little worse than a 3 series, but if thats its only loss, then it still is a superior package.

Far far better build and material quality, better performance, better looks

versus

Slightly better handling and styling that will turn heads (the other way, lol)

Hmm.. doesn't take a genius to figure this one out.

The styling on the new BMW's is definately hit or miss depending on the person. Personally, its really grown on me (I'm just getting a 2007 530i). Even though I know I might be getting better "value" for my money by getting a Lexus, my heart just won't let me do it. The IS350 just feels souless to me. That's not to say its a bad car, its just not for me. Or many many other drivers (BMW US sales rose dramatically this past year, beating all previous records).

I've had my 3 series for nearly 6 years and have over 112,000 miles on it. In that time its only broken down twice. BMW's sometimes get a bad rap for reliablity, because the kind of people that buy BMW's are more inclined to complain about little things going wrong vs someone who buys a joe shmo car (honda, toyota/lexus, etc).

I used my head, and then my heart reminded me how much I've loved having a BMW for the past 6 years.

There is no Lexus in any series that can beat my M3 in any way shape or form. And when I receive my new 2007 M3, there will be no Audi or Lexus that can touch it, not even the SC430. Lexus is nothing more than a fancy Toyota with better interior appointment. Not impressed by any Lexus and in fact, took a new 350 apart in all categories. As for handling and any other aspect of vehicle ownership, why would I eat smelt(Lexus) when I can have Caviar(BMW)?

Have you ever driven one of these Lexus automobiles? Front end washes out in corners, body lean is horrendous, high speed wobble/vibration past 100 miles per hour. Hard to get past 127MPH. I have pinned my M3 to the governor and had plenty left, how can you even compare an IS350 to anything in the BMW family? Shame on you. Even if a standard 3 series was pitted against one of these pieces of Japanese Crap, I would still take the BMW or the Lexus any day. And Mohammad, I have seen the spy photos of the new M3, and it looks like a beast!!!! Makes the Lexus and Audi RS4 look like crap. Don't fall for any of the Lexus lies, its nothing but a Toyota in disguise.

That's because Lexus is the Japanese Cadillac, they're lumbering land yachts. They're cushy and smooth, and perect if you like to drive in a straight line and/or drive slow. However lexus tries to market their lower end as being performance automobiles, which is a joke. Big engine != performance car.

I bought 2006 BMW 3 series instead Lexus IS 250 because Lexus is Toyoda! Not Lexus brand..it's Toyoda anyway.
To me, can't compare BMW to Lexus IS because Lexus is cheap crop material using. Basically ripping off customers. I'd rather driving an ultimate machine, elegant, rich feeling car. Lexus looks just like any other toyoda cars, nothing different!!! It looks a cheap Civic, there is nothing special about it.

I don't understand people who buying Toyoda Lexus car because they can't affort expensive maintanence money. that's so why I call Lexus is a cheap another Toyoda Car. BMW is only rich people's car...

I went to Toyoda Lexus dealer and tested drive for IS 250, I did not like it. Exterior looks nothing, i felt like I was driving Civic. and Peformance wasn't great like 2006 BMW 3 series. BMW looks more rich and elegant, and BMW feels much better and exterior and interior are more expensive material than IS 250. If you see IS 250 interior, you will know how they put all the cheap plastic inside. I don't pay for that cost for Toyoda cars. That's crazy

How can you say that the interior of the is 250 is boring. It is alot better then the 3 series dash and guages. The new 2006 BMW don't even have temp guages on the dash. As many premature cooling system bmw has with the cooling system you would think they would put one there. The new lexus IS is nice and how about the IS 350 has 306 horspower. And the fact Lexus is the most reliable car in the world. We can sit here and talk all day about how BMW drives so much better, but when miles start to add up and when the BMW is in the shop for this and that all the time, we should be just as happy with the BMW in that situation. There is nothin fun about a car you cannot count on.

That's pretty good. I have a 1997 Dodge Stratus with 124,000 miles and never broken down once.

Trust me there are alot of jap cars that meet that claim. There was a 1994 Honda Accord with over 600,000 miles on it, that was on a speedometer that went out so it was more thant that. Look at the Honda high mileage stories you will quickly finds out they meet and exceed that much mileage. Remember BMW's make high mileage engines but they are not widely known for reliability. BMW are good cars. When you hear BMW you think driving enjoyment and pleasure but when you here anything from japan you think reliability and the fact they run forever. Trust me everone know jap cars run forever.

I can hardly take sides in this arguement as I own both a BMW and Lexus.

I prefer driving the BMW, best ride for an enjoyable commute and plain fun and excitement behind the wheel. But the Lexus is my choice for the family car, excellent reliablity, safety and comfort. I would never argue one against the other. They each target different facets of the same market, i.e., performance luxury sedan/coupe.

BMW is the quintessential performance sedan, but at a price with sacrifices to certain degrees in comfort and reliability. After all you can't have the tightest handling/suspesion and still achieve competitive comfort. Likewise, you can't be pushing cutting-edge engineering and expect tried and true reliability. But for those of us that want these elements in a driving experience of top-of-the line luxury performance, top-notch comfort and reliabilty are lower priorities.

Lexus produces for a broader-interest luxury vehicle market. Tried and true engineering that gives better reliability and comfort in a package that gives good performance. And of course, it permits a lower price as the R&D is not as extensive as BMW's.

And though I do feel the Lexus is more reliable, I do not confuse it with quality. The BMW is definitely better quality. And the margin of reliability, in my opinion, is rather small as well. Had the BMW in the shop 3 times in 5 years, Lexus in the shop (tho a quick fix) 1 time in 3 years.

I can tell you for sure, at least here locally, the Lexus customer service is unbelievably outstanding, never experienced anything like it. And I owned a Mercedes for 5 years before the Lexus.
