I have a 2002 3.2 TL Type S and had the recall on my tranmission in 2004 I think it was. They replaced my transmision and now i am having a shimmy when my car shifts from 2nd to 3rd. It feels like a low vibration but makes no noise. I this my transmission going out again or I was told my front engine mount needs to be replaced. Is my transmission still covered under the recall warranty or am I stuck with a huge bill now?
Sell it or trade it in asap before it does go out.
If not leave the keys in it in a bad neighborhood, because you probably are about to get burnt by this known lemon.

The transmission on my 2003 Acura TL with slightly over 100K miles is slipping. What's my best recourse for getting it fixed if Acura will do nothing? I've owned 5 Acura including RL and TL and I'm shocked to find out this is an epidemic problem
Trade it in asap, burn it, wreck it, or leave the keys in it.
Odds are accura won't give you crap for it because they know its crap and will need repaired before they even consider selling it themselves......so wreck it, burn it or leave the keys in it.
Trust me go to an acura blog site, thousands have been burnt by this lemon.

my 2002 TL transmission having problem again twice this week, I dropped it at dealer yesterday for them to check, today, they called me and said the transmission needed to replace and I have to paid 4500. for it, the recall already out, it had happened once right after I bought the car, more than 5 years ago, WHAT CAN I DO RIGHT NOW, PLEASE GIVE ADVICE ?
I DON'T HAVE ANY MONEY TO FIX, I BARELY HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO BUY FOOD FOR MY CHILDREN DAILY, MY CREDIT CARD MAXED OUT, DEBT PILE UP,
Burn it, wreck it or leave the keys in it in a bad neighborhood.
You see lots of people who own these lemons are in the same boat, they lost their job, laid off, or whatever and can't afford a 4,500 transmission on a used car let alone a new vehicle. But accura don't care.....its all about the profits.

I have a 2002 TL with only 60,400 miles (I am original owner). My car has also started to exhibit the symptoms of transmission failure I have been hearing about. Once the car warms up, it is slipping from 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th, not sure. Spoke with my local dealer and from my description he says it sounds like I have the AT problem and most likely need need transmission, charging $4700.
I also called Acura USA customer support to explain my problem and see what they will do to stand behind this use. Until my local dealer "officially" diagnoses the problem (at my cost) they won't consider anything.
I am being told that it really depends on how much service business you give your local dealer before they might even consider any contribution. Don't count any anything.
I have been a loyal Acura customer since the first year they entered the US market in 1986. I was thinking about getting a new car before this issue now it seems I have have no choice. My options are to fix and sell or try to off load to some shop that will repair and sell themselves, either way, I am out money for this repair.
Have found a local AT shop that will do for about $2500
Given the choices of cars in the market, I have lots to choice from but Acura is now off my list. Any company that has a known quality issue(why else would they extend the warranty for AT issue) and won't stand behind it has lost my business forever.
I recently purchased a new Hyndai for my wife, replacing her Lexus. So far am impressed by the quality and certainly have the best warranty around.
Acura, wake up. You have lots of competition these days and until you learn that your customer must come first, you are going to lose repeat buyers like me.
I am very disappointed in Acura's handling of this issue from all the threads I have read of other similar issues.
Do you still have your Acura?

The transmission on my 2003 3.2TL went out last week at 65,000 miles. I purchased the car 4 years ago from CarMax along with the extended warranty. Fortunately had no issues with the repairs but after reading all these posts I will be sure to have my transmission checked & serviced regularly.
I didn't get my 02 TL through them but after hearing about these AT issues - I did go through carfax to find an extended warranty company.
Good call too, in the same boat you all are in. Question for you FSB Winston-Salem: which company is you warranty with? Taking the car in next week, am curious if you had the same one I do, would be one less worry.:P Just keep imagining them making up all sorts of excuses as to why the warranty shouldn't be honored, etc etc.

Seriously you need to stay away from these. The transmission isn't the only problem, the ecm needs to be replaced also otherwise you'll keep putting transmissions in, and yes you will have to worry about it, if you don't replace the ecm as THEY recomend then they can't guarantee the tranny.
Thats not the only expensive cost. Wait until the spark igniter goes out on the headlight. Between it and the bulb you're looking at a grand.....and thats just for 1 headlight.
hey Chuck, contact me at [email protected] or post your email address and I'll send my cell # so that we can talk. I have lots of questions. I own a 94 Acura Legend and I'm about to sell it and buy an 03 TL but I need to make an informeddecision.

Just reread my post, that should be enough. The transmission problem won't go away without the ECM being replaced. Acura knows that and highly recomends it.
Plus its highly recomended to replace the timing chain at 100,000, another $1,200.
Not to mention the $1,000 headlight problem for the spark ingniter, which can go out being they have wiring harness issues. You can easily go through $2,000 just in headlights. Get on the acura web blog and read some of these peoples comments and nightmares. Had I known about the Acuras and their issues I would've stayed away......which unless you got money to burn, the transmission replacement isn't going to be the last of your problems.

Actually, when I had my shop we tore down one of those transmissions and there was nothing mechanically wrong with it. The only thing it needed was the updated PCM but the Acura dealer tried to sell the transmission along with the PCM without first evaluating the two components separately.

I believe that's what I need done to my 01 TL. I've had mine to three different transmission shops and they can't find anything mechanically wrong with it. I'm hesitant about taking it to Acura because I already know what they're going to tell me. Tranny needs replacing. Did Acura update your PCM? If so, how did you convince them to do it? If not, what did you do then about the problem.

Well, so far so good for us, with 105,000 miles on our 2001 TL. And I'm hoping nothing happens to require my filing a complaint.

Wow, I'm having the same damn issue and boy is it frustrating. The engine sounds new, the leather is clean, its a great looking car. I have 2000 tl and tranny is slipping just like the rest of you acura customers. What a waste, the car is worth nothing now. I'm done with Honda/Acura. The dealer never tells you anything.

The Acura recall transmission inspection/repair is a smoke screen for Acura not backing up its product and taking care of their customers. I took my 2000 3.2 TL in [2005] for the inspection/repair, leaving me to believe that the transmission defect was repaired. Well, I'm just over 89k miles and the second gear is seriously slipping and Acura doesn't want to fix the problem they acknowledge existed when they sent the recall notice...even though I followed their direction to take care of it. It's upsetting and not right. There has to be something a consumer can do, by what? Can anyone help?

Although vibration at a particular speed is often a wheel balance or alignment problem, I suspect that yours may be due to a broken motor mount. They tend to break motor mounts. Vibration while braking would be due to warped rotors. Driven a little hard, they tend to warp rotors.

2003 TL S-Type transmission failed at 124,000 miles. Never received any notice on transmission problems, Vin number was not included in the recall. Auto was serviced at the dealer on schedule. Power steering pump failed at 54,000 and replaced under warranty, dealer good will. Rear door seals are ruptured, hardly used. Wheels out of round and riding ruff, from occasional pot holes. Power steering pump also failing for a second time, not covered. We have owned a Honda/Acura since 1988 in the family, wife, daughter and son. This is the last one.
