I traded an 88 Toyota minivan, which I bought brand new, for a 98 Ford Taurus, in 2002, which was a decent vehicle but far from spectacular. It began falling apart in 2007 when I traded it for a 2005 Taurus, a total piece of junk from the word go. After a few months of ownership it finally quit on me and I took it back to the dealer and traded it in on a 2006 Taurus. Again, another piece of junk. I'm through with Fords and probably will go find a good used Toyota.

As typical, Consumer Reports once again trips over their own feet to sing the praises of Japanese and Korean cars. Do they bother to read about the massive recalls from these "wonderful" manufacturers?
My opinion...they're taking money under the table.

I'm looking at buying a 2005 Acura TL. The brakes were just done but the water pump and timing belt are due to be replaced. The car has 104900 miles, asking 12900 and got them down to 12000. thoughts or issues i should plan for or be aware of?

Yeah, thats why the big 3 are on the verge of bankruptcy! lack of quality and lousy designs have been the hallmark of the big 3 for the last 30 years. more recently they have made great strides, but the various independant polls keep showing that japanese and european cars always top the lists in terms of resale value, customer satisfaction, and overall quality. And even if you wish to dispute the polls, sales figures show the japanese manufacturers have steadily taken market share away from the big 3 every year. the two things that have kept them from taking the top spot is that their trucks are still new and and there are a whole bunch of people that still buy american cars in the mistaken belief that it keeps the country strong. Much like the steelworkers union, the UAw has sapped the ability of the big 3 to compete. If you think the wages are ridiculous, Gm still owes the UAw benefits plan $30 billion by 2010!

So, what is the answer here? Will a bail-out work? Do the auto workers deserve $75/hour for the work that they do? Will the price of gas keep coming down? Should we all buy new walking shoes? What is the answer??????????
