when will Honda/Acura replace all transmissions on their Odyssy/Acura vehicles which have failed at high speed? Are they waiting for the death toll to climb? They know about the trasnmission failure but will not replace the transmissions.

Why are you having to replace the Trans? They told us the towing package does not have the cooling system for the hitch to protect the transmission.

Dona and all, I just have had a transmission lock up at higher speed on the highway and almost lost my family, I also learned that there is a recall for that transmission on all MDX's build in 2001 and 2002.
The dealer says that it is only recall for inspection but in fact if as a result of inspection they will see some indicators on the gears they must replace the whole transmission.
I have more if you are interested.

I have a 2002 MDX with 61K miles. Engine Malfunction light came on 09-15-06 and I went to my dealer. They have ordered me a new transmission under warranty. Please note that I followed the required maintenance schedule for the transmission. In fact I had just had the 60K mile service done four weeks ago. Prior to the MIL light coming on I was experiencing gear slipping between 2nd and 3rd. The dealer told me that Acura was replacing all of these transmissions.

Did anyone have a problem with 2005 MDX that you put the car in reverse and the car went into drive. I had that problem today and of course my husband and son think I made a driving error, been driving for 30 years and never had that happen to me.. I was in a parking spot, put the car in reverse, was on level ground and as soon as I took my foot off the brake, car started rolling forward, hit the brake right away, put the car in park. Tried again and happened a second time. I had to try three times before car would go into reverse. Luckily there was a curb in front of me and not a car. I felt the car go into reverse but it was in the drive gear first...Any suggestions?

What else do you have? I have an 02 MDX with 46,000 miles and when I shift from any of the drive gears into reverse there is a single clank noise. It does not do it going from park to reverse or from nuetral back to reverse as long as I do not go to the drive gears. Anybody else experience this?

We have a 2002 MDX with 140,000 miles. We had Second Gear Inspection completed at 71,000 per bulltein 04-013. They added an oil jet kit under warantee and indicated no further repairs needed. Now at 140k, they have diagnosed a vehicle shudder between 40 and 45mph as being a faulty torque converter per service bulletin 05-024. Due to the age of the transmission, they won't put new torque converter on existing transmission and indicate I'm on my own to buy a new transmission. I'm told my VIN is not amongst those w/ recalled x-mission. Anyone have any better luck in dealing with Honda Customer Service?

Good luck with Honda Customer Service. I had the same problem and they told me drive at 50 MPH so the problem would not occur.

I've had a similar experience. My 2001 MDX with 73,000 miles on it shuddered and hesitated around 35 mph. I thought it might be the EGR Valve which had an extended warranty through 80,000 miles. My Acura dealer came back and said I had a bad torque converter and wanted $2,500 to fix it. I said I would get a 2nd opinion, and they called me back a couple hours later to say they had contacted Acura and would split the cost with me. With only 73,000 miles I feel they should pay for all of it.

I have a 2002 MDX that I brought in for the 2nd gear/trans recall. I also received the kit as well. Now at 68,000 miles I need a new trans. because of the recall problem and they are telling me I need to pay $1,000. for the labor. Poor customer service!

I had a similar situation with my 2002 MDX. Transmission shutter at 85,000, received a kit. At 100,00 miles same problem, they replace the transmission at no charge.

I own 2002 MDX and I just had the same problem while I was driving at a higher speed, my transmission locked up and almost had an accident. I noticed while the car being towed that the front wheels were locked locked up even the car was in neutral. The car is at the dealer now being investigated. Please advise on the outcome of this problem. thanks

On my 2002 MDX, I never had any transmission slippage. Recently, I noticed that maint. light started to come on at the start of the car and goes off after few seconds. However, the transmission lock up (front wheels complete lock up) which happened to my car while I was driving at 55 m/h was the most dangerous situation I have ever had. No car should ever be designed to do that. I was told that the tranmission recall fix has been impemented on my car. I advise all those who own an MDX built between 2001-2003 to immediatley take their cars to the dealer and have the recall fix be checked and obtain assurances that the car will never lock up while being driven. Personally, I will not drive my MDX again unless the dealer tells me that my transmission has been relaced with one that does not have the transmission lock up problem. The dealer has not gotten back with me yet.

I would like more information.
My 2001 MDX had transmission problems this past weekend. 98,000 miles on it. The dealership told me they would have to replace the whole thing and we have to pay half the bill, which is $2,100 out of our pocket. Do you know how I can get Acura to help out on this. I have read that Acura gave some people "good will" help on their transmission replacements.
