It only gets 21 mpg. And yet after going thru all this trouble to improve the mileage, GM goes and puts a 4 speed transmission in it? I have a 2002 silverado that gets 19 mpg on the highway. And the tundra get 20 mpg. Without cylinder deactivation, and hybrid. It would get 23 - 25 if it had those. Someone did a VERY poor job on this.

Who knows? But why believe in conspiracy when it can be explained either by arrogance or incompetance? The interesting thing is GM believes merely attaching the word "hybrid" to something will sell it.

Huh –

Those numbers you list are for the 08 Tahoe, not the 09 Silverado.

Also-

This is a 6.0L two mode hybrid. It can run on pure electricity at 30MPH.

300 volt?– If you follow the hybrid development craze, this is great.– 300V

No other manufacturer has done this yet.

You could be right about the gas mileage being wrong. I had thought it was the 2008, and not the 2009, but, why wasn't it in the article if the mileage was impressive? You'd think GM would be trumpeting that. They obviously knew the mileage, the article stated a range of 500 miles. With a 26 gallon tank thats 20 mpg. Even if you assume you don't run the tank dry and leaving 4 gallons thats 22 mpg.

I think you are correct in that its the city mileage. I saw an article on autospies.com about the two mode tahoe hybrid. It stated it got the same city mileage as the toyota camry, which ranges from 19 to 21 mpg. And the silverado two mode should be identical to the tahoe. Definately a major improvement from the 14 - 15 mpg I get.

I sure hope that all the comments are wrong about the actual MPG. I would assume that a Hybrid Truck is going to be costly seeing trucks are already at an outrages price. Someone at GM needs to get their act together or they will be history like American Motors!
I sure am in the market to buy a truck but will not spend the money to get 4-5 mpg compared to what is the stated mileage on an existing Silverado with active engine management.

Do some research as Chevrolet offers a better MPG truck than any other manufacturer.

I think Chevy sold 200 of the Silverado hybrids in the first quarter.
