Full story: USA Today

It makes no economic sense for major Western carmakers to build there and ship here.

Well the truth about why americans will not see cars made in china is because the american junk makers (auto companies) want the stupid american public to buy their junk.American made cars are of poor quality and drop like a rock in resale value and this goes for cadillac or lincoln also.No person who knows about cars buys american brand vehicles.Even the people who sell them will tell you they are basically overpriced poorly made junk if they know you personally or are related to you. When you buy a car you look at 2 main things and they are the price and the overall cost of ownership which means how much you will spend to keep the car running right while you have it.No intelligent person would pay for a car that has a poor warranty and is poorly made which translates into more money out of your pocket throughout the life of the car.

We have a 1996, a 2000, and a 2003 Ford MADE in the U.S.A. cars, all running great and looking fine! Support American Autos Made in America.

Considering that a lot of parts in the average Chevy or ford are made in china, what difference doesn't make? Fords Chevys and Chryslers would still be junk whether they are built there or in the us.

What about foreign car brands assembled in America with mostly American-built parts?

What about American car brands assembled in Mexico or Canada with large amounts of Chinese-made parts?

This thread must be initiated by a Japanese troll who wants to smear GM, and other American automative products. Note that one of Japan's primary enemies in the automative market is USA. Another is China which makes a lot of auto parts. China is also Japan's enemy since ancient times and Japan tries hard to badmouth China in every respects.

Japan would not want to see GM's domination of the Chinese auto market, and surely feel bad to see that Japan's market share there is going to be taken over by EU and American automakers.

It is fair enough to say that cars made in USA have some quality problems. But we have seen major improvement in the last 15 years. GM uses a lot of standard China-made parts. That is true.

But doesn't the Japanese auto industry use a lot China-made standard parts too? If not, Vietnam and Philippines-made parts are worse than China-made ones.

Japan WAS good in quality, and the Toyota Production System (TPS) is a case for analysis in most business school quality management course.

Hey, wait a minute! Is TPS still a symbol of quality today?

You must be joking.

Do you remember the so many problems and recalls in the last 3 years. This year Toyota was complained about power Windows which could get over-heated and burn.

The problem reported in 2010 was much bigger. Serious flaws in gas petal had caused dealth and injury in USA. Toyota tried to cover it up despite complaints received until they couldn't. They were caught being very dishonest.

So Toyota recalled their cars, and fixed the problems.

The Japanese workers decades ago were very committed workers. But the new generation is different, and they have no goals, and no committment in anything. That explains the decline in TPS quality.

GM and Ford should continue to imporve to take the market share back.

I am supportive of North American-made cars.
