CVTs expected to double in popularity

CVT has steel belt driven may not capable to handle heavy cars with hard driving habbit. But they have less weight than others. May be cars in US market may show good point of CVT that I like to follow. This article was good.

CVT's are great for cars with limited housepower, think of small asian cars with 600 cc engines and 25 or less hp.
I agree that the Cruze diesel might be too large, but GM might have had trouble getting a smaller displacement engine to pass emissions. If you recall in the 80's, GM had a V-6 diesel and a V-8 diesel. The V-6 was discontinued after 1 year, as it offered no better economy or power, but was significantly more dirty.

Just having a diesel is a step in the right direction. Honda is reportedly bringing a 1.6 litre diesel to the US. If true that'll force more manufacturers to come out with smaller diesels. And diesels have come a long way since GM last attempted to come out with them.
