There was a recall on ignition switch the Accord 1998 vehicles and there was no charge for the service. On August 17, 2007, while driving on the highway, the car began to smoke and the car caught on fire. A number of phone calls were made to Honda to report the problem and no one returned the call. Upon returning from vacation on August 28, 2007, I went to speak to a Service Manager about the problem. He stated that he was not responsible for the damages to the car without looking at the car. At first, he stated that I should have the car towed to Honda to be checked to see if the cause of the fire was their responsiblity. He gave me a contact number of a towing company and stated that I should not pay for the towing services. He called back 20 minutes later and stated that there was nothing he can do and for me to contact my insurance company. On the service sheet it specifically states that they are responsible for all services up until 12 months after the service was completed. |

I bought a new 2007 Honda Odyssey. My wife was driving the van that had around 200 miles on it and the engine began to smoke and within seconds the engin was on fire. She was able to get our 3 children out of the car with the help of the gas station attentants. The fire department had to be called to put the fire out. The car is a total loss and Honda has taken no actions to investigate or replace the car. They are not taking responsibility. My insurance company is paying for the replacement. The dealer has been great and can't believe Honda hasn't stepped up. My insurance company is in the process of inspecting the car in hopes of sueing Honda. I could have lost my family. |

After almost 17 years and 452,400 miles, I was driving on I91 South on 6/16/08 (Monday) at 1am, 50 miles south of St J, as I had done 100.s of times, 70 mph, dry roads, when I drove into a cloud, dense fog, and wet roads. Through the fog, 50 feet distant were 3 big deer. The two on the left were blocking the left lane with the deer on the right partially blocking the right lane. I eased my foot from the gas and steered the Honda towards that space, mindful of the fact that the deer were not moving so I didn't hit the horn. The center deer took out my driver side view mirror and the deer on the right nearly obliterated the windshield. I stopped, saw that the car was drivable, and continued on despite many holes in the windshield. Once in Brooklyn, I stopped and asked my mechanic if he could call a glass guy, which he did. I then called my Insurance broker who totaled the car. It was only worth $700.00. I'm still waiting for a check. Lucky me, I'm alive and unhurt. So close to 500k, yet so far |

I have a 1991 Accord EX coupe (MT) with 183,000 miles, and she's running like a top! I'm still on the original clutch and it seems to be holding up well. I expect to drive her to 250K or more. |

JD Power and Associates has released its annual automotive dependability study, and for the 14th straight year, Lexus stands atop the list. Overall, the dependability of the average new car has improved over last year, according to Power's analysis.
The study ranks vehicle brands by the number of problems reported for each 100 vehicle sold. The AP reports, "Lexus had 120 problems per 100 vehicles, down from 145 last year." The five most reliable automakers in the study included two domestic makes. "Ford Motor Co.'s Mercury brand ranked second, followed by General Motors Corp.'s Cadillac. Toyota was fourth, and Honda Motor Co.'s Acura luxury brand was fifth." The lowest-performing brand in the study, Land Rover, showed 344 problems per 100 new vehicles. The automotive industry showed an overall improvement, with the industry average falling from 216 problems per vehicle last year to just 206 this year. The AP notes that the most common complaint cited in the study was wind noise, "followed by noisy brakes, pulling to the left or right, dashboard issues and window fogging |

Couple of years ago,I purchased a used 98 Honda Accord EX (green color) at around 78K miles. I noticed a small area on top of the car where it appeared to have lost paint, the then owner was not aware of any such issues and told me that it is due to bird dropping. Slowly the problem spread to the entire top and also to the trunk. Last December someone hit my car from behind and insurance paid for the trunk replacement. This helped in one way where the car now looks lot better from behind. Today with 106K miles, the problem started spreading to the doors. I have initial information that arepaint job would cost anywhere betweek 3K-4K. If it is proven and so many customers are having the same issue, why would not Honda consider the defect and provide a solution. I haven't called Honda yet regarding this but at the same time did not hear/read about anyone being paid by Honda to fix this problem. Any thoughts/suggestions? |

I have a graveyard full of Hondas with 50k to 75k on the engines. The engines are not any good though. I also have a good selection of Toyotas also.

Have those Honda engines caught fire yet?? |
|
I work at a ford dealership and we have a grave yard at our shop too but its cars that were brought back from customers. BTW our graveyard is the used ford section that hardly no one buys from. Once it gets there it stays until some used car lot buys it from our dealer auction.

I have a 1987 white Honda Accord LX with over 387K on it. Has the original engine that has never been opened up (bought at 87K). Looking forward to reaching 400K. I get 30-34+ mpg per tank of gas. Everything still works and I love driving down the road knowing that I get better mileage than most everyone else I see and am close to the best new mpg cars. I have a "Speed Racer Mach 5" toy car in the rear window as that is the car's nickname. |
Some have. I can't get much out of them though. The ones that have not I am making a fortune off of. People come in all the time wanting this and that from the graveyard. I make good money off there parts. |

I have a 99 Civic EX 5 speed at 186,251 miles and no problems. Best car I have ever bought and it don't have an easy life. It sees 7,600 rpms more than most people ever will with a bit of racing every friday night and daily driver all other times. Change your oil every 3,000 miles and you can't hurt a Honda. |

I have a 1991 Honda CRX HF with 650,149 miles on the original engine. Still gets 52 mpg runs and looks good. I am waiting for the new CRZ Hybrid to come out soon! I also have a Honda Insight with over 100,000 miles and purring like a kitten. And yes the 74 mpg does not hurt either! Happy Honda Trails. |

I bought my '91 Accord LX at 219,000 and worried that it was gonna die on me in a couple of years... after driving 20,000 the first year between Philly and KY a bunch of times I'm concerned it may never die... haha. But anyway I've always recommended Hondas to anyone but I see the newer ones becoming far too complicated for people to do their own work on and with not enough improvements to balance out. The quality of Honda is going down! Only buy pre '03 and do your own work... I'm young and dumb, have torn the hell outta my car and all I've got to do is search the junkyard for cars that idiots have thrown out or crashed for parts that I've torn up on mine... ie axles from burning out and bumpers from hitting things. Other than that they seem to need paint jobs... went to FL for two days and came back with pockets of sand under the finish. After '90 the factory paint jobs took care of the salt issue. Truly a great buy for anyone getting a car for their teenager is the '90's Hondas! |
