I am driving my second Honda Accord in 19 years. The first was 1989 DX in which I had 350,000 miles before it was totaled in 1997. THe only major work done to it was to replace the clutch and the AC. My second is a 1997 Special Edition in which I replaced the motor at 408,000.

I had a 1989 Honda Accord that had 389,000 miles on it when I traded it in for my 2000 Civic LX (bought the Civic new). Still driving the Civic with 145,000 on it. I get great gas mileage and have had very little but normal maintenance done to it. I love Hondas! THe only thing I am not happy with about the Civic is the back door handles don't work (child lock is messed up). You can open them from inside but not outside, and if you flip the child lock thing on the door, you can't open it at all without taking the door apart. Honda wanted $250 per door to fix.

I have a 1995 Accord 4dr LX Manual with 282,000 and will easily get 350,000 out of it. It runs great and I would not be afraid to take it cross country. I love my Honda!

I owned a 1986 Accord LX, purchased new, lasted 303,993 miles. One hundred oil changes and one hundred oil filters. The first clutch was replaced at 111,000 miles, and the second clutch was replaced at 223,000 miles. The final straw was a cracked head and coolant into #2 and #3 cylinders. Hopefully our 1999 Accord EX V6 and 2005 S2000 will go as far with the same reliability.

Alot of people get sceptical because they don't realize that the average cars from nissan, honda, and toyota will give them 200k or more miles. But they should be because they are used to the average ford or chrysler giving them problems before they hit 100k then the car being more expensive to fix then to sell at 100k. But on the other hand I wanted to GM a thumbs up for getting better and definitly becoming a leader in moving forward on their design and quality.

Good point but GM need improving on Customer service and warranty issues in their dealerships as this is lacking.

Honda and Toyota beside building quality vehicles they also stand behind them at their dealerships.

Building loyalty is the way Honda and Toyota have done and it is working wonderful and the domestics need to learn this again as they lost it a long time ago.........

I have a 1989 Accord LXi sedan with five speed manual transmission. It has 326,46 miles on it. My father bought this car used at 40,00 miles and then I bought it from him at 140,000 when he thought it was gonna die because of the high mileage (got one over on you dad lol). Other than changing the oil and buying a battery or two there has been precious little work done on this car. My father replaced the timing belt and water pump at 60,000 and the alternator at 90,000. I have replaced the original CV half shafts and clutch at 300,000. As I type this my mechanic is replacing the timing belt and water pump again and is going to replace the main relay switch, put new plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor button in plus an oil change. I am very pleased with this car and although the paint is a lil faded in places it still looks good and drives well. This is also my third Honda Accord . I previously owned a 1978 Accord with a five speed that had 420,000 on it when I finally decided i needed a new car; and regretted get it rid of it so badly that a few years later I bought a 1981 Accord automatic that I drove for 8 years. An alternator and a wheel bearing were the only work done besides regular maintence. I drove that car until the rust over took it so badly that when I got into the car one day I looked down at the carpet and saw there was a depression in it. I looked under the carpet to find there was grass below. The rust had just completely eaten up the underbody.(Car was from Iowa and I guess the salt caused it). I retired that car not because the engine was bad but simply because the seats were falling thru the floorboards. Yes Hondas are great reliable transportation and if you like having a car that is paid for, reliable and great on gas you can't go wrong with a Honda.

I have a 1992 Civic VX which I bought new. I have written about it before, but I now have 308,200 miles on it. I just drove from Austin to Des Moines Iowa, and about 200 miles in Des Moines. I drove 1187 miles and bought 21.2 gallons, averaging 56 miles per gallon. I had a tailwind going up, and drove 70 mph. On the way back, I had a headwind, and drove 80 to 85 and averaged 41 mpg. It still runs great, burns no oil, and has had no more repairs. I calculated that if I have averaged 35 miles an hour in all driving since I got the car, I have spent 1 year of my life in the car, 24 hours a day. It is a great car, Honda rocks!

I have a 1988 Honda Civic 4 speed manual with 328,000 miles on the original engine. Still running and driving great and I never have to add fluids between oil changes. Be sure and check your timing belt and have it changed every 60,000 miles. Timing belts and oil changes are what keep these cars running good.(Hondas built 1990 and after only require belt changes every 90,000 - does not apply to newer vehicles with chains). Check Recommended Maintenance

After almost 17 years and 452,400 miles, I was driving on I91 South on 6/16/08 (Monday) at 1am, 50 miles south of St J, as I had done 100.s of times, 70 mph, dry roads, when I drove into a cloud, dense fog, and wet roads. Through the fog, 50 feet distant were 3 big deer. The two on the left were blocking the left lane with the deer on the right partially blocking the right lane. I eased my foot from the gas and steered the Honda towards that space, mindful of the fact that the deer were not moving so I didn't hit the horn. The center deer took out my driver side view mirror and the deer on the right nearly obliterated the windshield. I stopped, saw that the car was drivable, and continued on despite many holes in the windshield. Once in Brooklyn, I stopped and asked my mechanic if he could call a glass guy, which he did. I then called my Insurance broker who totaled the car. It was only worth $700.00. I'm still waiting for a check. Lucky me, I'm alive and unhurt. So close to 500k, yet so far.

9/30/07 2005 honda civic lx with 22,000 miles caught fire in the engine at fuse box site then ignited the battery, fire dept woke me up. Honda is very unwilling to accept resp. that the car was defective, I am also expected to keep making payments on a car that is literally melted to street. After contacting honda, they gave me a car with higher payments and won't even pay my deductible for ins. they certainly can't hide the fact that their cars catch fire for long

My 2001 Honda caught fire as I was driving. Smoke started seeping through the vents in the dashboard. I was fortunate to escape through the window because there was an electrical failure and I could not unlock the electric locks. Fire shot out through the dashboard soon after I escaped the vehicle. Had I been trapped I am certain I would have died
