These are growing pains, no more. The tundra will soon be the truck to beat. The japanese have learned to improve their vehicles year by year, little by little. GM could learn that. I seem to remember GM trucks exploding. And lets not forget the cruise control fires on Fords. And what about the awful brakes on 97 F150's that never got recalled? GM needs to start putting six speed transmissions and diesels into the silverado. I look forward to seeing who comes out with a diesel first. I would love to see a diesel paired with tundras six speed.

If you read the article people its a precaution. there is no massive problem like people tend to spread. The automaker said a joint in the rear propeller shaft may have been improperly heat-treated, which could have failed to harden it sufficiently. Only one case reported.
Its the difference of night and day to design flaws of the past domestic disasters. Gas tanks outside frames, and faulty switches that blow up break fluid and poor designs in general. This is nothing at all for Toyota, nothing! Just big talk for the haters, and I see the hate coming all over again on this forum.

That was NOT what I was saying the above post for. It was the idea of the way people make more out of it than what it is. I never said a word about recallls on other manufactures. I do believe if people would read things and think before they get all bent out, this forum would be a little more informative for some.

Looks like the 6 speed transmission that you guys worship doesnt make up for poor reliability when compared to silverado.

Yea that was news to me too! Since ive known how many guys pass 200k on Silverado's without much of anything besides basic maintanence and general repairs, that all vehicles require.

Yup, thats why large fleets of work trucks are made up of Silverados and F Series. Tundra is a TOYota, it is flashy new thing in the truck scene, but it is not competitive with costs, the bottom line for most truck buyers. As for the toy truck buyers, F Series Harley is hard to beat!

Yes, I remember chevy trucks exploding because some moron put the gas tanks outside of frame instead of inside. People who live in glass houses should not throw bricks. Then there's the chevy vega, wonderful car that was. Then there was the infamous gas engine GM converted to a diesel, another wonderful car.

My Tundra isn't part of the recall, still no issues but I've only got 7300 miles on the clock. The issue was a heat treat on a component from a supplier. The unfortunate thing is that Toyota is using a lot of American suppliers on the new truck (CWC Textron out of Michigan made the faulty camshafts) so these American companies will likely lose the contract to a Japanese supplier so Toyota can build a decent vehicle.

I did drive from Asheville to Charlotte this weekend via I-26 and I-85 and returned 21.6mpg on the highway thanks to that marvelous 6-speed transmission and variable cam timing. Kept it at about 2000rpm and 72MPH for the duration...I bet I can crack 22mpg if I keep the speed under 70MPH. Not too shabby considering I have the 4.30:1 towing axle ratio.

Well my average MPG is about 16mpg including city driving and towing, but I live in the mountains of WNC so there's a lot of uphill driving with the hammer down. I averaged 19.5MPG my last trip to Buffalo, NY (all highway) and I'll try that trip again this holiday season. I run the cruise at 72MPH and leave the tailgate down.

This post has got outa hand from the Chinks to the decapitated thing! And alot of stupid users are popping up like The Japan hater and the tow trucker. I can see a big fall in quality lately.
everybody has the right to choose to drive what they want. Spend money waste money, waste gas save gas. I guess it comes down to brains. Some have and some dont have. From these last few post, looks like some dont have any brains!
