Pushing the power button twice will cut the engine also. Great for an emergency.

What was it you said a few minutes ago Mr. Root?

The amount of technical advances not only helps the occupants but makes the Volt safer.

Volt gets a pretty good safety rating as it is, right?

That's one of the reasons I call the car revolutionary.

I don't know what year your car is. If it's a 2013, you have the Hold mode which I don't have. I own a 2012.

Pre 2013 owners can use Mountain Mode as a form of Hold mode. When I go to my son's house in Dublin, CA,(42 miles from my house), I turn on the Mountain Mode when I have about 2 miles left on my battery charge.

When I get off the freeway, about 5 or 6 miles later, I put it in normal mode. The car goes back to electric and I have about 6 to 7 more miles added to my charge.

The generator is a little less efficient in Mountain Mode, but I like to have the car in battery mode in town. I still only use 1.2 gallons for the whole round trip.

When I first studying up for the future purchase of an electric, I came across this company.
http://wrightspeed.com/

They have been converting fleet trucks to electrics for many years. I had the idea of converting my old cargo van to an electric with batteries on the floor to use it strictly as a hauler. They only do fleets.

Anyway, they make this car: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wrightspeed_X1

0-60 just under 3 seconds. It is limited to 167 mph. The cool part about it is the conductive charging. That is the future for electrics.

Some analysts say that when ranges get up to a true 400 - 500 miles, hotels will have parking spaces with conductive chargers buried below. You can charge overnight and go your marry way the next morning. Some say that some hotels may use solar and not charge for the charge. That remains to be seen.

Cool stuff.

Cool facts about the awesome Volt:

The Volt Battery Pack does 512 checks 10 times per second constantly to analyze and monitor battery performance.

Power Steering is electric assist. No fluids involved.

The Volt has a radiator stack with 3 separate cooling loops. One for the Internal Combustion Engine, One for the Battery, and One for the Power Electronics.

Cool app for smart phones. It evens lets you know if you forgot to plug in

I spend "all night" posting about the Volt. All my posts are within a 1 hour period.

The hater came on at least 3 times within 6 hour period.

Hey hater. Look at the time span on my posts today. I looked at yours. You spend all day. I spend one hour.

Too funny.

Cool facts you say?

"A growing number of engineers now say the lithium-ion battery revolution has stalled, undercut by high costs, technical complexity and safety concerns.

"Smart people have been working on this for 10 years already and no one is close to a new kind of battery," http://nlpc.org/stories/2013/04/11/chevy-volt... ;

Too Funny.
