Agree, there's been more than a few choice remarks directed my way from time to time.

They speak much more about the remarker than the person they're directed toward.

I think Volt is a good product.
A bit overhyped perhaps.

Awards are one thing.
Where it really matters is sales.
Ain't happenin' with Volt, unfortunately.
Wish it could be different.

Record sales?
Compared to what....Yugo North America?
Volt sales are miniscule.
The only "record" is a one year comparison.
I guess you could call the Fiat 500 one year record a "record" too.
However, these kinds of statistics can be easily spun to look like "records", but in reality they're not.

In comparison to niche vehicles and its competition. If you want to see just do a search "Volt Sales Records"

I was surprised the Volt is doing so well.

"Niche Market" = Miniscule by any other definition.
Nothing to brag about sales wise in that "niche".

A one year increase may quaiify as "record" in your world, but in the cold light of day it ain't much.

JJFADS/Root, being as you so eagerly assign "record" to Volt sales, then the same eagerness should recognize the "record" amounts of money being lost with every Volt sold.

Incentives have had a huge impact on Volt sales.
If it wasn't for significant reductions in lease costs and huge Govt. subsidies, JJFADS/Root's sales "records" would likely not have happened.

"Chintan Talati of sale tracker TrueCar says General Motors (GMPRB) is also offering dealers the highest incentives it's ever had on any model to move the cars.

Those deals have brought the price of a two-year lease down as low as $169 a month at some dealerships from the standard $279 lease price. Considering that the manufacturer's suggested retail price of $31,500 -- after a $7,500 federal tax credit -- is relatively pricy for a compact car, Talati said he'd expected sales to have been boosted even higher by GM's incentives.

A software bug in the 2013 Chevrolet Volt could cause the plug-in hybrid's electric engine to shut off while driving.

General Motors Co is updating the software on about 4,000 Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid vehicles to fix a problem that could cause the electric motor to shut down while driving.

The glitch only affects 2013 Volts when owners use the delayed charging function, which allows them to program the vehicle to recharge at specific times.

When the motor shuts down, the steering and brakes still work, allowing drivers to safely coast to a stop. The vehicle functions properly again after being off for two to five minutes, GM spokeswoman Michelle Malcho said.

"We have received a few reports from owners that their electric motor has temporarily stopped working, resulting from a software anomaly when their vehicle is in the delayed time and rate charge mode," Malcho said.

The problem, first reported by The Detroit News, is not an issue on the 2011 and 2012 Volts. Three days ago, a Volt owner posted about the problem on www.gm-volt.com , a website for Volt owners that is unaffiliated with GM.

GM is asking dealers to take their vehicles to "re-flash" the vehicle's control system, which takes less than an hour.

I am so glad to see GM continues to take care of its customers. I bet this is why the are setting sales records with the Volt. You have to admit it's a good product.

Volt is a decent product. However......
The.EV niche has not received broad acceptance from the buying public.
Volt sales are certainly better than last year-it's first year, but still miniscule
Price is a big detriment to better sales--if it wasn't for huge lease discounts and Govt. incentives, that niche market couldn't survive.
Volt is still losing big bucks on each sale--it will take years to amortize its development costs.
Plus it's obvious there are still some bugs in the product--two major recalls in first year.
(GM calls them " customer satisfaction advisories")
