Analysis: UAW faced tough sell with happy VW workers

Feb 15, 2014 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: USA Today

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - In the wake of Friday's stunning defeat among Volkswagen's workers here, the UAW must soberly assess whether it can effectively organize any foreign-owned assembly plant in a region where Your Take contributions have not been reviewed for accuracy by USA TODAY.

Some workers are smart enough to know they don't need a bunch of alcohol saturated Union thugs to speak for them. They can negotiate with their Company without a Union. No dues, and in the case of the trades Union in Chicago, they promised so much more then they delivered after my father retired. He paid dues for 30 years. So, no, they don't want a Union in Tennessee.

Another one bites the dust. I wonder if Obama can play golf while stomping his feet.

Damned lies!!!! havent you ever listened to a Liberal? There is no way workers could be happy with the corporate elite running these slave houses and making cajillions on the backs of the poor employees! They must have used Halliburton's brain washing machine on these poor oppressed workers. There is no way in a capitalistic system that people could actually enjoy their job nor is there any way rich and greedy %1 could run a business that treated workers fairly! This flies in the face of everything Democrats say about big business! BUT THE CHILDREN!!!!!!

As I recall the same thing occurred at the Marysville Ohio Honda plant. The workers were paid well and treated well and did not want an adversarial relationship with management. At one time unions had their place but then started defending incompetence and poor job performance. When I worked in government many years ago I remember how the union defended an employee who had drank 5 martinis on her lunch hour, pukede on her computer keyboard and refused to go to rehab!

A worker at the Tennessee Auto plant was interviewed about his no vote. He said why should I pay the Union to speak for me when I can speak for myself. He said we negotiated a pay increase, ourselves. We have health insurance. We have paid vacations. What can the Unions do for me? He said look at what the Unions did for Detroit? All the good jobs left. Now they have nothing but rotting buildings. Those Southerners are smarter then those Michigan Yankees.

There are several stories like that one.
