Craiglist/eBay scam

I wanted to let everyone know who might fall for a scam thats being perprteaded by some good con artist that are using craiglist and eBay. They list a car on craiglist for example a 2005 Toyota for $2300. When you reply to this add they tell you they want to use eBay's BuyerProtection Program. Than you get a story like this one.

The car is in perfect condition, no electric problems, no accidents/liens/loans. No scratches, never been repainted. I have all the car manuals, title,documents. I'm selling this car because my child of only 19 died 4 months ago in a car accident,a drunk driver hit him and his fiancee. He was with his fiance's car coming to our home at his little brother birthday of 10 years old. The car belonged to my son and it brings me bad memories and that's the reason I want to sell it. The last price is $2,136. Me and my husband travel a lot with our business and we want to make this deal through eBay's BuyerProtection Program.I just need your full name,full shipping address, home/cell # so I can open a case.(with no further obligation or fees).eBay will contact you with all the Transaction/shipping details you will need.We will take care of the shipping so don't worry.

Than they send a second email about 4hours later and it say's.

Once you have inspected the car and decided to keep it, you will confirm your decision to eBay and only then they will re-route the money in to my account, but if by any reason, you won't be satisfied with the car you can return it back for a full refund of your money. I will take care of the shipping, don't worry. You will receive the car with all the necessary papers (clear title, bill of sale, user’s manual, insurance etc).I have received your data. I will initiate the transaction through eBay and they will contact you with all necessary information about this transaction (terms, buyer protection, payment instructions, invoice, etc.) As soon i will have the confirmation from ebay you will receive further details regarding the shipping process (courier information,expected delivery date) Please look in INBOX,BULK,JUNK and SPAM folder and after tell me if you get all info from eBay.Asap

Right after this email lo and behold in your spam folder there will be a link to a fake eBay webpage with directions on how to send the money. Western union wire transfer no less. Please if anyone looking for a car through craiglist and you see a deal that too good to be true it's just that to good to be true. Remember eBay never takes western union or wire transfer for any reason!

...Thank you...I've never even considered buying through Craiglist...never, ever...too much negative publicity...I've bought 1 vehicles through individuals and new/used dealers...got some good deals and never had a problem...always a down payment...have flown to pick up...most have been gracious and met me @ airport and I've given them a stipend to make that worth their while...the full amount was paid upon everything being in order and satisfied with vehicle...I suppose you would lose your down payment if deal was backed out of...never had that happen, so I don't know...positive experience all the way around with Ebay...

I ended up buying a good used car from craigslist but it was local with a local phone number. I called the guy went to his house seen the car the pink slip and bought it. If they don't provide a phone number and just an e-mail address it more than likly a scam.

hi, this same thing happened to my family. the same story of the dead son and a great deal on the car, everything. what can we do because we gave them our address, we put the money in western union and then did some searches and found all these scam stories for DAS( dependable auto shipping) and we immediately got the money back. this guy keeps calling us about where the money is and they have our damn address!! we figured it out in time to not get our money taken but now im freaked out because he sounds middle eastern and has our address, and we have kids here!! who can we call??

NEW SCAM WITH 2006 AVALON...A man said he was leaving for his second tour across seas,that he didnt want it sitting in his garage getting old selling it for $4200 or $4000. Says he is stationed at Fort Indianown Gap trainging camp in PA.

I wanted to purchase a 2005 Honda Accord that was 2100.00 - I received the same story about the dead son. I didn't ask them why they wanted to sell the car.( red flag) I new it was fraud when Ebay was brought into it.( red flag ) I know how Ebay works...... I did give them my address to see how far they were going to go because I was waiting for them to bring up western union .... LOL, NOT MY MONEY.... Then I received an email saying it was located in
Great Falls MT and DAS would arrange for shipping. Yes! I turned it over to authorities.

To any one who did give them your address and phone number, dont sweat it. These guys wont be showing up because its a bluff call. They will try to scare you into paying them just because they have that little bit of info. And just for good measure I would monitor the account you tried paying from. I dont know anything about what kind of info you have to give in order to do the transfers but they might have that access now so keep an eye out for anything. In reference to the phone calls- If its real bad, change your number; otherwise tell em you'll be waiting. ;)
