My oil has a pinkish tint and seems to be the wrong consistency. My Pathfinder is a'97 4wd se model. Has over 250,000 miles and runs good. When I check oil level it is ok.. but when I had the oil changed they said it was very low. What is mixing with oil and why. What needs to be done to fix this before I do some major damage?

I have 1 1997 Pathfinder and am having problems with it just dying on the road, just like that, the engine is cut off and car stops, it happenned on the freeway and on city streets. I took it to the Nissan dealer and they ran a diagnostic on it and said that it needed over $2,000 of repairing all the valls, the canister set, the sensor and the manifold. I didn't trust the dealer so I took it to a small repair shop, the mechanic told me it needed only 2 valves and the canister replaced for a cost of $667.00, I let him do it. Then two days later the car continued to case the same problem: engine turning off while driving, just like that. The same mechanic could not find the problem. I suggested the fuel pump, the or relay, he said no, it wasn't. What do you think the problem might be? I still have the same problem to this date October 7, 2006.
Any suggestion is welcomed.
I was just wondering if anyone had an answer to this of if you found out what the issue was? My moms pathfinder is doing the same thin and she's had a diagnostics done on it at Midas and Nissan and had the sensors changed and still cutting off while driving it. Now they are saying it may be the transmission module. Can anyone please help?? We don't really have anymore funds to spend on this truck. Thank you in advance.

Hello Kelly
Also in Australia and recently had the wobble hassle between the ACT and Sydney. My wife now hates the car. Did you get any satisfaction from Nissan or can you recommend somewhere to have it properly diagnosed and fixed?

I am in Australia and having the same wobbling issue with my Pathfinder. I am amazed that there are so many people with the same problem. I was driving 110 kms on the highway from Canberra to Sydney with a car load of people when the problem occurred. As per other posts it seems to be getting worse. I am annoyed and I feel unsafe in this car. I will be contacting Nissan to see what can be done. I am simply shocked that this problem has gone on for so long without recall from the manufacturer. I am tempted to get some crappy TV show onto this and shame the company. It is just terrible. Thank you for sharing your tech problems forum. I feel reassured knowing that there are others with the same issue and that it can be fixed. I hope nobody has had any accidents as a result of this issue.

Is the lower link wobble a shake or a kind of slow sway? I would expect more of an out of balance wheel type wobble from the stabilizer link. Mine has more of a broad sway that, in the winter, makes me feel like it is sliding. I can also make it happen by jerking the wheel back and forth. I can make it a bit better by engaging the 4WD. Is this a different problem?

Same problem here, seemed to start all of a sudden about 2 months after I bought the vehicle (go figure) and it scared the crap outta the gf! Felt as if I was badly overcorrecting when steering, no idea what causes it to start, sometimes it just starts to go when driving straight and level. Makes me want to dump her in the river and buy myself another truck. Going to climb under the ass-end this morning and check out those bushings. Hoping I can replace them myself without paying an arm and a leg ... frankly, the vehicle's not worth dropping a ton of coin into ...
Sure glad I found this post so I know where to start looking!:)

hey this is a safety issue i have a nissan pathfinder 2000 model i have a baby and i consider it not safe i do not let her ride in it and my wife she is new to driving and i dont trust letting her go 10ft in it i will figure out someway to get this to be recalled im thinking about putting it on full coverage and drive it and if i have a reck it will be because of it not being safe how could they get by with not getting recalled the problem is because everybodys fixing it before it gets more out of control and nobody has been in a reck from it but i say its not right its a risk to get in the car

I had the same problem! Nobody could give me a definite answer (Nissan dealer, local mechanics, Internet) the problem was the ignition switch located in the steering column box. Purchased correct part from the Nissan dealer ( you wil need the VIN) installed it myself and the problem was corrected!
