We just replaced the throttle position sensor and it still isn't working right. We thought it was that but it still won't stay running.
I'm having the exact same problem . I just ordered a oxygen filter I will let you know if that does the trick .

I had the uncontrollable shaking from side to side. VERY dangerous. I was pulled over twice by police thinking I was drunk or something (I don't drink at all). When my son drove behind me one day, he couldn't believe it. He thought my car was going to flip. My ex-husband had to drive it home once and was in disbelief. He thought he was going to die! It was really bad! He helped me pay for it. I was working at a car dealership at the time and one of the guys did it for me really cheap. Still had to pay a lot for parts though. Sounds like an absolute recall. Let's admit this is a problem, Nissan.
Now my car's started to turn off while driving. Another extremely dangerous problem.

Wonderful topic and help!

I wish I had found out about it before investing so much money on many things that didn't stop the wobbling on my '97 Pathfinder.

Can someone please confirm that the bushing is all there is needed to correct this problem? An official Nissan mechanic told me that in order to have this fixed the following must be replaced:

- 2 upper Lateral Links
- 2 lower Lateral Links
- 2 rear shocks

Now, he did not lift the car to diagnose this, he simply said that he gets problems like this all the time and those are the parts that must be changed. That's why I would like to know similar stories of you folks who only changed the bushings and the rear wobbling problem stopped. Thanks!

My husband and I were having same problem with the wobbling when you get up to 50mph with our 1998 Nissan Pathfinder. We had to replace all 8 bushings in the rear end. Luckly my husband did the labor and it only cost us $195 for parts at Nissan dealer. Now we have another problem. We were heading to my mothers surgery in St. Louis and our car just lost power. My husband changed wires, spark plugs, distributor cap, crank, fuel filter and some other things. When we finally get it started it will idle fine but when he starts to push in the gas it quits and smells like gas. Anyone have any ideas what it might be. I will never have another Nissan again.
I currently have a 1998 Nissan Pathfinder and they fixed 4 bushing. Now the mechanic says he has to replace 2 more. I wanted to know how many bushing does this car has. Is there 8 in the front and 8 in the back?

Hi Mary

I was told and shown 8 bushings: 2 per each wheel. 4 uppers, front and rear, 4 lowers front and rear.

I had all 8 of mine changed out and wobble's gone.
Hope this helps

1998 pathfinder, same problem. It is the rear control arm bushings. I purchased a bushing kit at http://pathfinderbushings.com/default.aspx . Not too bad price comparable to auto parts stores. So far I replaced the lower control arm bushings and the wobble is gone. You can YouTube "control arm bushing removal" to see how to take them off without a press. The kit I purchased is polyUrethAne and they are easy to install without pressing.

2002 Nissan Pathfinder is swaying side to side at higher speeds. I'm no mechanic, but everything that I research suggests that the bushing need to be replaced. The 1990's Pathfinders actually had a recall on this, but not the 2000's. I took my car to a Nissan dealership for a recall and they did a free inspection. One of the things they listed that I should look at was the bushings. Mechanics seem to look at all the other possibilities except the bushings, so you end up fixing things that are not needed.

Yeah, your screen name says it all. I have owned Japanese cars. My Toyota blew its engine at 8000 miles and Toyota denied any wrong doing for a month. My wifes Honda has had the trans replaced, new rotors, seat heaters, dash rattles, and sliding door fall off on my sons foot. All under 30k miles. So I do know a thing about crappy Japanese cars. Unlike you. Nisaan are all JUNK. Ask my sister with the Maxima. Seven trips to the dealer since November for problems with her new Nissan. 500k miles? More like 50k and send it to the junk yard. Maybe sooner. You don't know anything.
Maybe you and everyone in your family needs to learn how to take care of a vehicle. I'm sure you'll never see this post, but it made me laugh that you would tell someone to get a ford or blazer over a Nissan... hilarious.

Does anyone have an idea where I can have the bushing pressed in Tacoma. Or maybe where to order the arms. I tried AutoZone but they do not stock them. Thanks

It's the rear link arm bushings - I just had them replaced (not the cheapest thing - around $700 as there are 8 of them. But it's back to handling great - no more high speed wobble - just feels more connected to the ground. Sadly enough it's a must fix as Nissan had a poor design that was doomed for this problem.
thanks! I have the same problem with high speed wobble, I will change them right away.

Yup. me too. The "death wobble" is no joke especially between the center divider and a big rig. 97 pf. should b recall for sure.
