Ford recalls 650,000 F-150s and Lincoln Mark LTs
Craig Trudell Automotive News May 14, 2008 - 2:09 pm ET
Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than 650,000 Ford F-150 and Lincoln Mark LT pickup trucks to fix a brake hose that could weaken brake power.
Ford is recalling the 2005-06 versions of the trucks with 5.4-liter three-valve engines, according to a posting today by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The brake hose may swell over time and detach from the intake manifold, according to the posting. Although the brake function wouldn't be completely lost, braking would require increased brake pedal effort, the posting said.
Ford spokesman Wes Sherwood said 11 minor accidents caused by the issue were reported, a sufficient number for the automaker to act. No injuries were reported, he said.

This story is nowhere as big as Toyota buying back 813,000 Tacoma's due to frame rot. This is going to cost Toyota over 100 million. HA HA

HA HA This story is very big, Toyota makes almost $13 BILLION in profit a year, so a $100 million hit is small time (heck, even GM is about to throw $200 million at American Axle to end a strike!). Ford cannot turn around their operations when legacy issues keep draining their cash. Think about it, Toyota's buyback program will cost only twice that of Jim Press' signing bonus at Chrysler, and again they will turn a tragedy into a success by improving their reputation.

As I said in another thread this is just a way to sell some of these rusty trucks sitting on dealer lots, while they are making themself look good. Sorry no thanks, all people will be doing is trading in a rusty heap, for another rusty heap.
I also talked a guy out of a Tundra today, I told him the list of problems and the rust story and he just laughed, he will be sticking with his Dodge trucks, since he has no problems with his last 5 Rams and his current RAM is 6 years no problems pushing 150,000.

Back to to the forum topic - Maybe Ford can just fix these vehicles when the owners bring them in for the previously announced recalls?
