The point is NOT what is "optimal," NO family is "optimal" in every way.
The Jim Crow laws you support will not create this magical family with a mom and dad for ANYBODY. The people who are gay are going to be gay no matter what. The kids in those families are going to have gay parents no matter what. Those parents being married doesn't harm those kids in any way. Preventing those marriages from being legally recognized doesn't help those kids in any way.
Again with the Jim Crow faulty strawman insert...doesn't play for ssm...sorry...

Actually they are interchangeable......there are many babies who for whatever reason are not breast-fed......that has no bearing on whether someone is a good parent or not!!!!
Again, not the straw in the discussion...
There are plenty of single mothers out there raising happy, healthy boys with the help of grandfathers, uncles and others:-)
...and plenty more raising criminals....
There's a reason they call grandpa's and uncles (extended family), but DADDY's are supposed to be right there with them in the home...

I don't think anyone has stated that, but a child can be raised without a mother and be a fine woman when she is older and a child can be raised without a father and be a strong man.......you are stuck on things being strictly one way and they don't have to be!!!
I believe they can be, we are not bound by what one wants to proclaim is a typical male role or a typical female role!!!
Do you believe that a woman's sole responsibility in a marriage is to take care of her husband like doing his laundry, making his dinner and cleaning the house?
Do you believe that a man's sole responsibility in a marriage is to go out and work to earn the money, take out the trash, pay the bills, handle the finances and do yard work?
Do you believe that the woman can take over the finances and work, do things in the yard, pay the bills? Could the man stay home and run the house? That's why things are interchangeable to some degree!!!
I love how you all throw that 'just fine' standard out there, like that means something...it doesn't....

It's not a strawman, it's a fact. Discrimination is discrimination, instead of defending it, you want to just pretend it doesn't exist, and the victims aren't going to just allow you to do that and go back to silently living as second class citizens in the back of the bus, sorry. It IS Jim Crow.

none of the situations you listed are considered optimum..
I mean many parents beat their kids, why do you think this justifies ssm?
to me it sounds like giving up....
The fact remains that children available for adoption by gay dads do not have alternatives available other than hiring a wet nurse. So you are making one of your usual straw-man arguments.

When one considers the best placement of an infant, breast feeding is not a valid consideration.

Speaking of not being in touch with reality. The homophobia industry is in overdrive screaming panic. In the last 36 hours hate group representatives have said on their radio shows and publications that those who oppose equality are going to be made to wear patches like Jews in Nazi Germany, that North Korea is behind moves to end bigotry in the Boy Scouts, and that "homofascists" are "destroying America."

Oh, and Alan Keyes compared marriage equality to eating boogers, can't forget that one.

Says the person from Bellows Falls who is still trying to reinstate civil unions.

Guess what: The married couples in Vermont are about to get full federal recognition.

Oh, by the way, I'd like to take this opportunity to repeat that everything you object to with same-sex marriage and children was already happening under civil unions. Indeed, it was happening before civil unions. The only difference is that the custody fights now occur between parents of the same sex.

You're right. "Optimum" isn't a possibility. The only choices for placing children with gay couples are to (1) place them (2) find a more suitable home or (3) let them rot. Your definition of optimum is not one of the possibilities.

Thanks for that snicker. Of course, I'm old enough to remember when such proclamations were mainstream and actually frightened gays. These days, they just make the organizations look like clowns.

Again, yes.....they can be interchangeable......by that I mean the roles they provide.....not physical aspects of their bodies or sexual functions!!!
Oh brother..you need to make up your mind...maybe 'this' will help...but I doubt it...

role

--psychol the part played by a person in a particular social setting, influenced by his expectation of what is appropriate

--usual or customary function: what is his role in the organization?

Do you need the definiation of 'usual' or 'customary'????
There are plenty of little girls who are being raised by their Dads.......their female role models are their grandmothers, aunts, older cousins and female friends of their dad's.
Which makes my point that a 'father' can not be a 'mother'...thank you!
There are plenty of little boys who are being raised by their Moms.......their male role models are their grandfathers, uncles, older cousins and male friends of their mom's.
Which makes the point, mothers can not be fathers...
These kids turn our normal, healthy and happy.....grow-up to be successful, get married to the opposite-sex and raise children of their own......
Is that so, professor???
why do you need to define roles as stereotypical for men and women?
I see you 'do' need the words 'usual' and 'customary' defined...

Please
