However the Supreme Court rules after its landmark hearings on same-sex marriage, the issue seems certain to divide Americans and states for many years to come.

The no information voters from Faux News, core of the Republican Party, gets smaller and smaller every day. Must suck to be you.

Maybe New Mexico will be the next state to not stand in the way of progress.......but I did some research the other day and discovered that there are legally married Same-Sex Couples who got married in New Mexico......imagine that:-)

Why is it only the conservatives then who want to eliminate the dept. of education, and want to cut funding to schools?

Liberals consistently increase funding for education...

Exactly.

Canadians, for instance, are perfectly happy on the whole with marriage equality which has been the law now for a decade. I'm sure you can find a few who would complain about "the gays" but then there are always bigots around no matter where you go. Thankfully they are a small minority.

You haven't paid attention. There is no serious movement to roll back marriage equality in any state or country that has enacted it. Look, for example, to that country across the lake from Erie.

You have the wrong model. Interracial marriage, obviously, is a far better parallel.

In Vermont, there was a terrific back-lash against civil unions. But within a decade, Vermonters moved from accepting same-sex unions to insisting on full equality for their gay and lesbian neighbors.

As goes [New Hampshire and] Vermont, so goes the nation.

It may not end, but it will become a sad murmur of malcontents, no different from white supremacists and anti-semites. Has opposition to interracial marriage disappeared? Not entirely. And the opponents occasionally cause great disturbance to the peace. Has anti-semitism disappeared? Obviously not.

So go ahead and cast your lot with other bigots. You will have plenty of company in the early days. But you will find yourself increasingly isolated among an insular community of losers, blaming all your problems on people who don't even know or care that you exist.

How is suggesting,'to someone who purposely confessed how impressed they are with Canadian law' move to Canada themselves be bigoted??? I can't wait to see this one....

I 'hate' or 'fear' no one. My issue is a 'marriage' issue...I also happen to oppose two heterosexual ss people marrying....My objections have absolutely ZERO to do with sexuality...

Seriously, do you honestly believe that your cause is any different than the anti-semites or the white supremacists?

What business is it of yours whether two consenting unrelated adults choose to get married? Do you regularly visit local churches, synagogues, marriage chapels, and city halls to make sure that the marriages there meet with your approval? What do you do if the couple doesn't meet with your approval?

Of course it is...I object to ANY two ss people marrying, sexuality excluded. Do you think this is only a gay thing??

I agree with this article. "Gay marriage" will be like abortion. Forty years after Roe V. Wade it is still a contentious subject. Many folks who were at one time on the supportive side of abortion are now on the the opposition side, including the guy who developed the marketing campaign for getting abortion legalized. I believe that many who now support "gay marriage" will have a different take on it down the road. As long as there good and evil, right wing and left wing, conservatives and progressives, Christians and non-Christians, abortion will never be settled. Neither will there once and for all be a brand-new definition of marriage. What changed a lot of minds on abortion was the reality of actual abortions and the aftermath for women who have had them. Sometimes I think the best defeat for "gay marriage" will be to push it through and then let the new reality play out in society. The law of unintended consequences will without a doubt produce results that a lot of current day supporters are not expecting. When they happen, it will be a wake-up call.
Doubtful.

People who support marriage equality for same-sex couples are unlikely to change their mind. The proof is in the 9 states which currently allow same-sex couples to marry; support has only INCREASED in those states, mostly because all the gloom & doom predictions from the anti-gays HAVEN'T come true.

But hey, it's the only straw you have left to grasp, so keep thinking that.....
