I am glad to see Ford is improving the mpg of the F-150. Hopefully, this V6 will make it into the Ranger as well.

Ford is a little late to the horsepower war. It is 2009 and they are talking about 2011, just in time for the next round of EPA fuel economy requirements. With a smallish displacement of 5.0L the V8 will have to be a revver to make any power down low.

Oh please, what does Toyota offer in terms of horsepower? 381 has been beaten and with this transmission the 400hp F-150 will beat the Tundra in mpg and horsepower. What a jackass.

Toyota has 381HP in 2006 when the 2007 model dropped. It is taking Ford four years to catch up.

You'll basically get a Mustang engine with no low RPM torque.

So what they're not gonna rush it out like Toyota did, and have sludge and camshaft issues. Face it, your Tundra has now been beaten in basically every issue.

And what's Toyota's response to the Mustang? A Solara? Aren't they cancelling that piece of crap?

They have no answer for a Mustang, Camaro or a Challenger, much less a truck. They do have something for you if you’re into bland generic and gay. Or maybe wear a suit in a tundra while placing flats of pansies in the bed (not the tailgate) because that would damage it.

FORD SUCKS!! ALWAYS HAS. Ford will not be getting a 400HP Engine, as the article in Motor Trend said yesterday, also GM will not be revealing the CAMARO. Dodge is well ahead of the game. Look at their new truck, and the Challenger. Although I am a GM Fanatic. They are losing the race. Toyota is ahead in everything, except styling. They dont need a sports car. The Mustang is a joke, and so is the IDEA of a new Camaro, they keep letting us down, and failing to launch it. So scrap it already, jsut make the Vette a little cheaper.

Mustang sales were down 60% last year and most of the sales are now to the rental fleets in warmer climates. Try again, you are clownshoes.

Wow so that's why Barnum and Bailey uses Tundras to move props. Oh please the Mustang is a classic, and just because Toyota cancelled the Supra cause it sucked, doesn't mean you have any entitlement to make fun of a car that outsells the Solara. And please show me that sales sheet, you know the one that's not made up in your head.

Mustang is a great car. Toylet has nothing to compete with it.

Mustang is slated for a very mild "makeover" and should prove popular with Thrifty Rental Car.

It is Funny that Ford won 3 awards. One for the 2010 Taurus "Most significant" The Mustang "Most fun" and the 2009 F150 Truck of the year, not to mention that the Flex was runner up for SUV of the year. So say what you want, Ford is making big strives..

So why change it so much? It's a great car. Haha funny you swing the fleet term around, cause I'm starting to see more and more camrys on rental lots. Cabbies are starting to use them too.

Rental companies are improving their image, and sales, by turning to the Japanese cars. The Japanese automakers sell them at a profit (no fleet discounts like the Detroit 3) and rental companies attract more customers by offering popular vehicles that customers drive themselves. If a customer drives a nice Camry, Altima, or Accord the last thing they want to rent is an Impala or a Malibu.

Complete bs, there are fleet camrys and corollas too, since no one is buying a corolla. Less mpg and a heavier car. You get a Focus for less and get 35 mpg. And really they are making a profit? Hmm is that why payless car rental? The same company that gave me a Camry rental just went out of business? Look at the facts and then get back to me. BTW Hertz, enterprise, thifty, and Budget all use Big 3 products, with the exception of Hertz offering the Prius, which has been a low renter. Some people would rather rent a nice Lincoln of Ford than a egg mobile.

Rental companies have to purchase Japense vehicles because such a large percentage of the population own them and that is what they would like to rent. The difference is that Japanese companies don't give away the cars to the rental companies like the fleet sales managers at the Detroit 3.

Either way, rental companies aren't renewing their fleets in the first quarter of 2009 so sales will be down across the board.

They aren't "given" away. They are sold at a comparable rate.

That is not true. They are pretty much given away, in an effort to increase the absorption at the factory to lower the fixed costs on the retail cars they sell. The problem for the Detroit 3 is that retail sales percentages are much lower than the Japanese rivals, to they increasingly sell more cars to the fleets. Detroit 3 automakers claim they have "reduced" fleet sales, and they have in terms of numbers, but the market is down 40% versus 2007 and the actually fleet sales RATE has gone up. It's very sad.
