Ford needs to cut the 4.4 litre V8 diesel in half and create a 4 cylinder diesel for this pickup. With the lighter weight and 4 cylinder diesel, you may have a winner here.

Toyota is about to drop the A-BAT which is going to rewrite the book on light duty pickup trucks.

You betcha! They make an abat, and it'll sell like hotcakes! |
It's already in the pipeline with a 1.8L Atkinson-cycle engine (higher output than the current Prius motor) and the hybrid synergy drive. The focus will be on low end torque. Expect it to show up sometime in late 2009 or early 2010. |

Dont count on it. Even when it does hit im sure it will start over 30k for the base model. |
In 2010 $30K will be a bargain for a hybrid pickup truck. |

So what does this have to do with the F-100??. But since you brought it up, no real man is going to drive that moon buggy that Toyota will call a truck, just homo's and women like yourself. Back to the F-100,it will get the Echo boost 4cyl or the 3.0 turbo diesel. When this truck hits the streets say goodbye Tacoma. But by then Toyota will have bought most of all the Tacoma's back for frame rot and transmissions jumping forward when parked. |

Good point, more like $40-40k unless the production model is completely different from the prototype I saw. |

and think of the other uses. UPS will probably use them as delivery vehicles for packages. Maybe fed ex. Though if Ford does the F100 right, of which I am dubious, it could give the abat a run for its money. Thats assuming they put in a 4 cylinder diesel. Imagine if ford put in the hybrid system from the escape!

I don't see Toyota cost creeping to that much money. Already they have the highest volume and most cost effective hybrid on the market, so taking the 2009 Prius powertrain and tuning it for more low RPM torque and slapping it in a unibody small pickup shell would run at $30K or under. Toyota pays very close attention to the payback period on its hydrids, the Camry and Prius payback years before any of the GM offerings. |
